I think people are hung up on the idea that music and movies have to be 'organised' together.

Hey you should file a patent for your method for capturing user experience and interactions through a single window screenshot.

Yes syncing is considered organizing.

Does music still have column browser view for ripped music?
Column browser is gone. Maybe it will be added back in later, but it's doubtful.

Does anyone know if Music still has the visualizer feature? It was one of the coolest parts of iTunes when launched.. I use G-force and a few other plugin's..
Visualizer (And Classic Visualizer) are still there. iTunes has been dropped from their names, so they'll likely stick around.

Apparently in the new Music app in Catalina, the Media folder will always be kept organized (whether you want this or not), and that any new files imported into Music will now always be copied to the media folder (again, whether you want this or not). Is this true? Can anyone here confirm this?

I don't know if I like this idea. If it's true, I hope they add back the option to not keep my Media folder organized and to not copy every new file I import.

Syncing contacts, calendars and photos is considered "organising media"?

Listen we can go back and forth but I’m not going to agree with you.
You don't have to agree with me. You questioned the widely commented bloat that is iTunes, and when given examples, proceeded to argue that cramming unrelated things into the same app isn't "bloat". Apple has admitted as much by splitting the functionality into separate apps. If you want to continue believing that the toaster and the microwave should be one product, you do that, but I'm not going to agree with you on that either.

Anyone know if the new set up will work with older iOS devices (running iOS4)?
Also, can you use the Finder to install/restore Apps on a iOS device (like you used to be able to in Itunes)?
Presumably yes and definitely no, respectively.

The syncing portion in the Finder looks to be a near-direct rip out of iTunes with some minor UI tweaks. That is to say, if a device synced with iTunes, it should sync with the Finder. Apps are still not there and will most likely never come back.

I would consider syncing organizing, as it makes sure both he computer and other device (phone, iPad, iPod) had the same media. So Apple is moving sync to the Finder, oh no, that's Finder Bloat!!!! Do you want Apple to break up Finder as well? lol.

Is it going to shove apple music in my face every time I open the app like the iPhone does. I seem to turn it off on my iphone every day, but it keeps turning itself back on.

I would consider syncing organizing
So you consider iTunes syncing contacts and calendars to be an inherent part of organising your media collection?

Do you want Apple to break up Finder as well? lol
They should have brought back iSync (but I guess it'd be called Apple Sync now). Or made it a prefpane. Im sure it's in Finder to make it easily discoverable.

MacOSs sync calendar and contacts using iCloud not iTunes. Are you sure you're a Mac user?

Is it known if user set itunes metadata will transfer to the new apps? I'm particularly interested in star ratings? I use them a lot and I'm afraid Apple is fixing to ditch them altogether.
First world problem, I know but here goes...my Koehler shower system currently hooks right into my iTunes and plays music automatically as I shower. Will functionality like this be retained? I won’t upgrade to Catalina If this is in danger.
I have no information to share but I just wanted to say: You are da man!

From that answer I can see that you never tried to add any media like movies or audiobooks from other sources than Apple's stores to your iTunes media library.

Guess what happens when you do that. They all get mixed together in one big pile, which is in this case is the music list. So what iTunes does here is essentially running back confusedly to momma.

Manually added media get only sorted into the corresponding categories after you manually edit the metadata, even when the type of media should be clear from the file format.
I use Subler on all movies I add to iTunes manually. It can pull movie metadata such as art and plot description, cast directors, genre etc from the online database. This also sets correct media kind so that added movies don't get dumped into home videos. Helps a lot.

According to Billboard:

"For users concerned about iTunes Match, Apple says that feature will continue to exist and will not be changed."
Thanks a lot for that info! This should definitely be mentioned in the Apple support document. And in the original Macrumors article too. I had to flip through 7 pages of comments before I found your post.

Not sure if this has been asked yet, but what happens to my actual music files if they are stored/hosted in my old iMac that will no longer be able to upgrade to Catalina? Other than my work MacBook, I don't have another computer, and if I purchase a CD (yes, sometimes it happens, especially with local music) I want to be able to import it on MY computer.

These options have existed in iTunes since the original iPhone, years before iCloud existed.

Are you sure you’re an iTunes user?

So we're talking about past features of iTunes? Not the current version? OK, I guess if you have to go that far back in time to try and prove your point, you lose. lol.

Can anyone with the iOS DP beta tell me if the iTunes Store app has been removed?

Can someone check to see if star ratings are still there? And what about the mini player? Thanks.

According to this reddit thread it looks like we're safe for now:

Star ratings are there but hidden in the preferences. I can edit my playlists but I can't find a way to create new ones. Maybe I'm missing something.

Yes, it's exactly the same, with the same UI and same features.

This is actually a much smaller change than iTunes 12, where they redesigned and reimplemented most of the UI and it took them 18 months to sort out all of the bugs.

Same goes for the new TV App. It's just iTunes with the music removed, although there's some new UI and it's much buggier.

Yeah, I have considered that. But (AFAIK), it won't work with my iTunes purchases. And I still have two AppleTV 3's that don't natively support Plex (although there's apparently a hack that uses trailers or something).

Ah yeah there is a trailers hack, but for the cost of a new Apple TV (get a 4 on eBay for next to nothing) probably not worth it.

I don't own any iTunes bought stuff BUT I know there is an iTunes plugin so I wouldn't be surprised to find you can play it back in Plex (and of course you could always rip and remove the DRM...although isn't all iTunes stuff DRM free now including movies?)

Lol ok. Your definition of bloated and mine are different. To me iTunes is streamlined and works very well. The Mac OS system is now bloated because we have all these different apps to try and organize our media with. Hopefully soon we get a TV shows app and a separate Movies app because grouping them together is “bloated.” And let’s separate the iTunes Store completely because having it in any of the apps is “bloated.” And we need an Apple Music separate app because purchased music and streaming music needs to be separated because it is “bloated.”

Bloated to me would imply that it is disorganized and slow, which has never been my experience with iTunes. But you are cool with it and that’s fine so we can move on.

Hope this doesn’t ruin support for old iPods.

Yeah and for the old music I have on some of them too, i.e DRM'd purchases from early days of the iTunes Store. I'm starting to realize my Catalina-ineligible spare machine, a mid-2010 slightly enhanced MacBook, might have to become the new synching home of my old iPods... going to get tricky though if after awhile Apple won't "authorize" a computer still using iTunes app to play any of that DRM'd music bought ages ago from the iTunes Store.

Starting to think I might have to burn some of that DRM'd stuff in playlists to a r/w CD and rip them to iTunes now on the 2010 machine. They were only mp3 quality to begin with so they can sound pretty flat, like a F350 drove over them.

Alternative would be put all those into a library on that mid-2010 laptop and turn on iCloud Music Library and let them upload and come down as AAC if they can still be matched, but that's only good for as long as I maintain an AM subscription and as long as AM still works on a machine running El Capitan and iTunes whatever is on that latpop.

The music files that get uploaded matched and downloaded as AAC don't end up "unprotected" in that process, so in the end I'd still need to burn and rip them (and then back those results up) if I really care to ensure continued access. Unless Apple can make some deal with the studios to do away with the DRM on those old purchases. That would be ideal but I'm not holding my breath. Especially if Apple's slowly drifting towards not selling music any more..

So... burn and rip time for the old DRM'd files from iTunes Store? Ugh, ugh. I'm going to wait, and just hope that old iPods referencing old music formats are still supported for music "sync" if I connect them to Finder in Catalina.

Life was simpler when the only way you got to hear music en famille was to gather around the piano after supper, eh? Jes' saying'... they still do make pianos with 88 keys and you don't need electricity either, if you finish up the entertainment hour before dark...

Column browser is gone. Maybe it will be added back in later, but it's doubtful.

How can they do that. It's the only way a list view of a big library is really useful. Are you sure?

Column browser and internet radio is gone.

Pretty slim "details".
So, we can sync or devices through the finder, whatever.
It says we can still manually manage our music but just how does that happen? Do the devices still show up in the Music app?

And another question. I don’t keep all my audio in iTunes. Frequently I plug into iTunes, create a playlist name on the device, then drag and drop audio directly from a finder folder into the playlist on the device. Will I still be able to do this?
No. Yes.
[doublepost=1559874514][/doublepost]
There seem no clear info about iTunes library on external drive. What happen them? Automatically? Or need do it manually? Will it allow external drive library? No way it fit my iMac cos not enough storage.
It works with external libraries like before.
[doublepost=1559874780][/doublepost]Scrobbling to last.fm no longer works. iScrobbler ask where iTunes is.

Couple quick questions on somethings I have not seen answered on the forums yet with the new TV app.

1) Can you change the genre of which movies & TV shows are organized?
For Example I have all my MCU movies listed as MCU under genre same with all Bond movies and DC movies.

2) Can you change their sorting name?
For example I have the new Star Trek listed as Star trek I / II / III. This way they show in order.

3) Can you move movies and TV shows into a playlist?
I keep the full HIMYM in one playlist and enjoy playing it on shuffle or running in order with no pauses if your using the appleTV TV app or IOS TV app.

4) How is the file management?
Right now I have a 8TB portable HD that keeps my movie and TV and music library that I have constantly backed up on. When traveling I unplug it from my everyday mac pro and use it on my mac book air. I will not be able update my Mac Pro and will want to update my Mac book. Will this still be possible to do?
