I use smart playlists religiously... both for Music and Video... both separate playlists are typically set to shuffle ONLY stuff I've not played/watched in the past year. Is that still possible (on both counts)?
And backup tool. And sync tool. And Mobile phone setup tool. and photo sync tool....
I think people are hung up on the idea that music and movies have to be 'organised' together.

Hey you should file a patent for your method for capturing user experience and interactions through a single window screenshot.
Column browser is gone. Maybe it will be added back in later, but it's doubtful.Does music still have column browser view for ripped music?
Visualizer (And Classic Visualizer) are still there. iTunes has been dropped from their names, so they'll likely stick around.Does anyone know if Music still has the visualizer feature? It was one of the coolest parts of iTunes when launched.. I use G-force and a few other plugin's..
Syncing contacts, calendars and photos is considered "organising media"?Yes syncing is considered organizing.
You don't have to agree with me. You questioned the widely commented bloat that is iTunes, and when given examples, proceeded to argue that cramming unrelated things into the same app isn't "bloat". Apple has admitted as much by splitting the functionality into separate apps. If you want to continue believing that the toaster and the microwave should be one product, you do that, but I'm not going to agree with you on that either.Listen we can go back and forth but I’m not going to agree with you.
Presumably yes and definitely no, respectively.Anyone know if the new set up will work with older iOS devices (running iOS4)?
Also, can you use the Finder to install/restore Apps on a iOS device (like you used to be able to in Itunes)?

So you consider iTunes syncing contacts and calendars to be an inherent part of organising your media collection?I would consider syncing organizing
They should have brought back iSync (but I guess it'd be called Apple Sync now). Or made it a prefpane. Im sure it's in Finder to make it easily discoverable.Do you want Apple to break up Finder as well? lol

I have no information to share but I just wanted to say: You are da man!First world problem, I know but here goes...my Koehler shower system currently hooks right into my iTunes and plays music automatically as I shower. Will functionality like this be retained? I won’t upgrade to Catalina If this is in danger.
I use Subler on all movies I add to iTunes manually. It can pull movie metadata such as art and plot description, cast directors, genre etc from the online database. This also sets correct media kind so that added movies don't get dumped into home videos. Helps a lot. From that answer I can see that you never tried to add any media like movies or audiobooks from other sources than Apple's stores to your iTunes media library.
Guess what happens when you do that. They all get mixed together in one big pile, which is in this case is the music list. So what iTunes does here is essentially running back confusedly to momma.
Manually added media get only sorted into the corresponding categories after you manually edit the metadata, even when the type of media should be clear from the file format.
Thanks a lot for that info! This should definitely be mentioned in the Apple support document. And in the original Macrumors article too. I had to flip through 7 pages of comments before I found your post.According to Billboard:
"For users concerned about iTunes Match, Apple says that feature will continue to exist and will not be changed."
It's been possible to sync those between a phone and a laptop using iTunes since before iCloud existed.MacOSs sync calendar and contacts using iCloud not iTunes. Are you sure you're a Mac user?
These options have existed in iTunes since the original iPhone, years before iCloud existed.MacOSs sync calendar and contacts using iCloud not iTunes. Are you sure you're a Mac user?

Are you sure you’re an iTunes user?
No. They exist currently and have always been there (since the iPhone was released)So we're talking about past features of iTunes? Not the current version? OK, I guess if you have to go that far back in time to try and prove your point, you lose. lol.
Can someone check to see if star ratings are still there? And what about the mini player? Thanks.
Yeah, I have considered that. But (AFAIK), it won't work with my iTunes purchases. And I still have two AppleTV 3's that don't natively support Plex (although there's apparently a hack that uses trailers or something).

Hope this doesn’t ruin support for old iPods.

No. Yes.Pretty slim "details".
So, we can sync or devices through the finder, whatever.
It says we can still manually manage our music but just how does that happen? Do the devices still show up in the Music app?
And another question. I don’t keep all my audio in iTunes. Frequently I plug into iTunes, create a playlist name on the device, then drag and drop audio directly from a finder folder into the playlist on the device. Will I still be able to do this?
It works with external libraries like before. There seem no clear info about iTunes library on external drive. What happen them? Automatically? Or need do it manually? Will it allow external drive library? No way it fit my iMac cos not enough storage.
