iDisk is awfully slow, I admit.

Maybe it's my imagination, though, but I swear transferring files via iDisk is faster if I do it via me.com, rather than through Finder. Does it seem faster that way for anyone else?

Yes I noticed that exactly myself awhile back. At the time I was curious if iDisk access thru Finder connects to a different server or something, because MobileMe uploading is blazing fast.

If iDisk were even *reasonably* fast, MobileMe would be the perfect service (for me). Unfortunately, I still need to use Jungle Disk (Amazon S3) for my online storage as iDisk is painfully slow. Transferring large directories via Finder causes my new MBP to get SUPER HOT and the fans kick in at full speed. I usually have to reboot when this happens. This is simply ridiculous Apple. Even 3rd party solutions such as CyberDuck and Transmit are slow with iDisk.

Jungle Disk on the other hand has always worked perfectly. I get billed about $5/mo for the amount of space I'm using on Amazon's servers (under 20GB for sure) so it would be nice if Apple would do something about the iDisk speeds because an all-in-one solution would not only be convenient but cheaper as well.

It is painfully slow. It's been painfully slow since it was introduced in 2000 as part of the iTools suite.

Maybe it's just WebDAV or Apple's implementation of it.

Web iDisk is slow, but on osx I selected the option to keep a local copy in sync with web which solved my issues when I am at home.

I'm debating if I'm going to get MobileMe after my free trial. I don't really need it though.. It's just something cool to use for me.

pointless post.

Thats what I do. The local copy eliminates the slowness and does the sync in the background.

I may have to try the local copy. The problem is, let's say I want to backup my iTunes folder with all the songs in it (10GB). I would then need to create ANOTHER copy of all this content on my local HD for the local iDisk and waste additional space? The thing I like about Jungle Disk is it just syncs the existing directory.

I'm just waiting on them letting me use my own domain name with email and web.

As soon as they do that they have a sale

My thoughts exactly! who the F%@#$ wants to send messages to clients using me.com instead of their own domain!

I've been on the free trial and it's worked well for my Macbook Pro and iPhone 3G. I just ordered a Mac Mini for the family and noticed at B&H Photo that they had MobileMe for $79.95 plus a $30 rebate if purchased with a new Mac so it made sense to grab it at a final price of $49.95 along with the Mac Mini bought there.

I would have bought off Amazon but didn't see any rebate offered there.

With the reported problems many have had with MobileMe/.Mac over the last few years, I'd be hard pressed to recommend MobileMe for any business users until Apple can prove they can maintain better uptime and integrity of data.

Now all that is needed is REAL world prices and MORE SPACE!!!!

More space would be nice but it's not too horrible where it is. I previously would have agreed with you on the pricing but since they came out with the Find my iPhone feature, I find the pricing to be quite decent at the moment. It's even better since I was able to get it for $49.95.

I would stick to Jungledisk for backups. I've been using it for quite some time and it with the Amazon services is pretty reliable for the price you pay. I'd trust my data to it before I would MobileMe.

While I just purchased MobileMe, I purchased it mostly for the Find my iphone feature. There's no way I would trust Apple with my data on MobileMe unless I had other backups(which I do).

I'm a MobileMe subscriber and I still use Gmail for mail. Me is just slow and the server still goes down. The why do I still pay is I liked .mac as my address and iDisk is very useful for me and saves me from Fed Ex on many occasions.

Cool, lots of new things. But wait... suddenly mail doesnt seem to be in sync with mobileme or my iphone anymore!!!!

So, dear Apple, given how you cannot seem to give me a meta calendar in iCal that has the birthdays of my friends with reminders, maybe you can have an intern program such a thing into MobileMe. I mean... I have it without reminders in iCal at least, but that calendar won't sync over MobileMe, just iTunes. Oh, what did you say... No? Ah, because Steve Jobs has no friends and in general doesn't care about people's birthdays? Okay then, sorry for asking.

I still want my subscription based calendars to go over MobileMe to my iPhone. Last time I checked in iTunes, I couldn't sync those calendars either. Someone correct me if I am wrong...

You can publish your automatically generated birthdays calendar to MobileMe. Then, subscribe to the published feed on your iPhone. I do it all the time.

1. Turn on the birthday calendar in iCal's general preference pane.
2. Click the birthdays calendar to highlight it within iCal.
3. Under the Calendar menu, choose publish.
4. After the birthday calendar is published, send yourself a publish e-mail.
5. Click the subscribe link in your iPhone's Mail application.

The reminders get published too.

Slow iDisk???

I don't understand why everyone it complaining about the slowness of iDisk. I only have a 50Mbit internet connection but it seems ok to me?
