Those system apps have dependencies that would break other software if they were removable. It's a terrible idea to allow core apps to be deleted. I agree the ones without dependencies should be removable (Podcasts), but most are essentially data hubs for third party apps. I think the best solution is an option to hide apps from view.

iCloud Drive is disabled by default and has a toggle to enable it for the speingboard. they should offer the same for "tips" and all that crap

This is great! I've thought for a long time that it would be cool if they did this. I would also love it see a bug reporter app...maybe built into this? I love the colors of the app, too.
This app already exists for developers and public beta testers. If you sign up to be a public beta tester, you can get the Feedback app.

I have plenty of apps I rarely use and some apple apps I don't use. Here's how I handle it. I move all of those apps to the last page of my apps screens. Pretty much out of the way and yet there if I should need them in the future. Very clever of me, don't you think. Wouldn't that be a better way to handle this than to exclude an app that you agree would be useful only because you don't want to see an icon that might ever be useful to you someday?
What would be even better would be if Apple provided a toggle in Settings to hide each pre-installed app. I have Stocks, Tips, Game Center, etc. in a folder, but I'd prefer not to have them show up at all.

So thoroughly well said. I agree.

Beta users do have the Feedback app. Also I agree with the colors. They're quite calming which hopefully is helpful if your using support to troubleshoot problems :)
Oh yeah, that's true about the beta app. But I vowed never to use a beta again so if they could do one for non-beta people that would be great. Lol ;)

Yeah I know. I just don't like using betas so I'd like one for non-beta users. I wouldn't sign up for a beta just for the app.

I wonder how extensive the app will go.... will be have ALL support documents with Apple troubleshooting or only partial ?

Plus, if the app itself needs to be updated separately, this would be a pain.... If this is true, Apple can easily link the websites URL to the app. that way whenever the web page online changes, so does the info in the app. and since it any info displayed "appears" to be coming from an app. (e.g it does not open a browser to view), just users the URL to display in the app itself. Solution done :)

That's how i would do it.. And if Apple is smart they would to.

I hope it's not just a version of the online troubleshooting user passage, cause all those end up with the device being sent in for repair. And by repair, being sent to apple to determine if the device is working correctly or requires repair.

Let's see what they develop.

In response to the people saying "no more preinstalled apps!" I feel you, though this one makes more sense to me than including the stocks app by default. Why don't they all have the toggle that iCloud Drive has? Toggle it on and it's on your screen of apps, toggle it off and it's still there but there isn't an App icon to bury in your "Useless" folder.

The absence of an app would not break other apps. That would just be dumb design and is the kind of things suppliers say to stop you complaining.

You guys make me laugh. I can't believe some of you would rather not have this app or want the ability to remove this from the phone. After you delete the app you'd be mad at Apple for making the app removable or not included at all when it's most needed.

You may not get the option on the German language pages to chat, but you're free to chat in under the US support page. Some support will be limited, and you may need to speak to your local support over the phone, but you can definitely get chat support for technical issues.

System requirements? iOS? All of them (iPod touch, iPgone and iPad) and Mac?

Why. What is so terrible about having them there. Are they really that offensive to you? See above for my suggestion.
They still show up in Spotlight searches.

Makes you wonder if it's because Scott Forstall left the team.
Nope ... it didn't make me wonder about him at all. He never even crosses my mind. ;)

Every new iOS builds upon and (for the most part) improves the overall user experience and device capabilities following along with improvements in the hardware too, therefore iOS 9 can do *so* much more than iOS 7 -- just as iOS 7 did *so* much more than iOS4 (etc. etc.). Those of us who have had iDevices for many years have followed all this and learned along the way; someone just stepping into the walled garden could *really* use a little help learning what's possible (and not), so this app is a very good idea.

"I don't need it," you say? Fine -- don't use it. There are lots of newcomers that will be very glad it's there to explore.

"I want Scott back to make my iPhone look like an antique handset," you say? Meh... go visit a museum and get as nostalgic as you want. The world has moved on.

it's handy that the app knows what devices you've got. so if your iPhone breaks, presumably you will be able to log on with your iPad and ask them how to fix your phone

Get the feeling Apple has discovered customers are LESS satisfied with their fancy new support website and some moron suggested they make it an app?

Here's a tip, Apple - customers are abandoning their support sessions because your "help" has become an endless loop of delaying customers from actually getting HELP ! It's 100 times harder to use than a few years ago and even experienced users are avoiding it now. Lord knows how ordinary customers get any satisfaction from it.

A website that you have to TRICK into booking a Genius appointment is so far off the plot not even Sorkin could fiction you a way back.

Think on your sins, Apple Support.

The fact that Apple needs to make an app like this with us being on version 9 of iOS is not a good sign. I feel like the quality of Apple's software has taken a nosedive ever since iOS 7 was released.

something like 90% of the genius bar appointments are accidental damage or usage questions.

This really confuses me. There is more and more complexity with the newer OS's and there are new iPhone users who don't have the experience of 14 previous iPhones that you have.
How in the world can an app that will help solve problems indicate a "nosedive"???? That is so absurd that it's infuriating to hear someone even come up with something like that. Sheesh. I just wish that all of you apple haters and bashers would go far far away. Dump your apple products and set a samsung and be happy elsewhere.

Do you know why that is? They get a **** load of customers coming in and booking appointments for easy crap like password resets and not always their Apple ID password. My boyfriend is a Genius and tells me quite often about folks coming in because they forgot the password to their Yahoo email or Chrome needs to be updated or they want help setting up a dropbox account. none of which is an Apple issue. Folks like that take up limited resources to forcing them to give up that info before they can come in and get no help means they get directed to the right place and someone that actually needs it gets that 10-15 minutes. Also even if its an Apple ID password it can be handled without coming in. If its something more complicated than requesting an email or having the proper answers to the security questions in store staff can't help anyway, the person has to contact phone support cause only they have the needed system access.

There are too many folks and not enough staff to support them to have folks using their time for whats basically babysitting folks that haven't bothered to learn to do things for themselves. so taking them through those steps is about teaching them that valuable skill

Get another phone/tablet.

Seriously? If you are unable to ignore an unwanted result in a search, spotlight, google, or otherwise, well.....
I'm fine with ignoring it, but that's one place it doesn't get hidden is what I mean. Fortunately Spotlight is better about not displaying apps you don't use than it once was.

It's a pretty minor "issue" though and much better on iOS than the Android devices I've used with dozens of extra apps I can't remove without rooting (Music, Google Music, Sprint Music, Samsung Music, Sprint Radio, etc.*), so it could be worse.

*I don't actually remember the app names, but you get the idea.

My boyfriend is a Genius and tells me quite often about folks coming in because they forgot the password to their Yahoo email or Chrome needs to be updated or they want help setting up a dropbox account.

That's both painful to read and entirely believable.

I was talking about the quality of software.
