The Sony Metreon in SF used to have a giant Microsoft Store. It lasted from '99 to '01. Closed after barely more than 2 years.

Come to think of it, it's no longer called the Sony Metreon. And its Sony Style and PlayStation Stores both closed as well. The best thing left in there is Sanraku Sushi.

Ironically, the Apple store was built directly in a straight line across from the metreon's diagonal entrance. Granted, I think the entrance is gone now (they're turning the 2nd and 3rd floors into a target store!!) :(

What a sad ending. The Metreon was pretty darn cool in its hayday, considerably cooler than an Apple store >> There was a lot more to do than just oogle over an iPad in a stinky, extremely overcrowded grey room with large wooden tables.

I seriously hate Apple stores and avoid them like the plague because they tend to be too overcrowded and a lot of them smell bad.

It's news to me that Microsoft even has stores.

I wonder how the service is at both stores when comparing them? Does anyone know if the employees at the Microsoft store are as welcoming and kid as those at the Apple store?

The Microsoft stores have not been that successful. It was a "me too" when the Apple Stores were so successful. I'm wondering when the Microsoft stores will get sold to a third party.

Actually, when I was at an Apple Store a very hot-bodied girl came in, hooked up earbuds to an iMac and went into a very animated and sexy dance to music none of us could hear.

I actually posted here, asking if this was some sort of Apple promotion but everyone said it wasn't. In any case, far more exciting than the embarrassing MS dance thing.

Understandable reason for avoiding them, but how many businesses would love to have that problem?
