Is this the 2012 model that has user upgradable ram to 16gb? If so am I the only one that thinks at 999 (student discount) this is a hell of a deal. Atleast I will be able to upgrade ram and hard drives in the future.

This is where I can still recommend the 13"cMBP. If you go for the rMBP, I say you need to at least get the $1500 model. A $1300 computer with 4GB of soldered RAM and a mere 128GB SSD is not a sound investment IMO. At least with the cMBP you can put in 16GB of RAM and 960GB M500 SSD later. You aren't going to see the performance increase of the Iris over the HD 4000 unless you turn he resolution way down.

For $50 more than the base 13" rMBP, you could get the cMBP with the i7 upgrade.

Of course, it all depends on what your priorities are. The rMBP is of course lighter, thinner, with a significantly better screen. For me, for practical uses, I would get the cMBP over the base rMBP. If I can spend the extra $200-$300 I'd definitely get the 13" rMBP.

Just wondering, where did you purchase your MBP with matte screen?
I also want to get one with a matte screen. Thanks.

Not sure this repsonse will get to you (I only just noticed the quote notification)

I was waiting for one to appear on the Apple refurbished store, so it came with a full warranty etc. I actually went to the trouble of getting a friend to buy it in the US (I live in the UK) as I much much much prefer the US keyboard. The UK layout stinks in my opinion!

Good luck!

Edit: Here are a couple: a 2011 version that can boot into Snow Leopard if you need it (similar to mine).

And a June 2012 version: OSX Lion and above.

So who uses their 2012 MacBook Pro classic in 2020. I still have mine and it’s 200 cycles and it’s still on it’s original battery.
