For what it's worth

I'm very much looking forward to a (long overdue) refresh on Pages, hoping for the return of features that were part of the '05 release but which quietly disappeared in later versions -
  • ability to save to HTML/XHTML
  • Ability to effectively use bidi text
TextEdit can do both. It seems silly that Pages no longer does either. I bought Mellel for its ability to handle occasional bits of Hebrew, but I sure wish I could do Hebrew in Pages like in the old days without the justification breaking ...

Apple has said over and over that they are not doing this. People need to stop asking this question since there is no basis for people to believe in it other than arguing a slippery slope argument (which I can argue can apply to anybody). You might as well ask what happens when Apple decides to buy Adobe or ARM and Foxconn - none of those are going to happen either.

There is a basis for people to believe in it which is the iOS system that Apple built. Apple might say that they wont do it but they are allowed to change their mind. Apple said 3G takes too much battery time from phones but then introduced iPhone 3G a year after.

Things change...

I've used Office for as long as I can remember and have never gotten errors about it not being genuine.

I've had a copy of Windows and an Office (years apart and totally separate incidents) that became deactivated. Not sure what happened, Microsoft wouldn't tell me, but it took me months and emailing scanned receipts as proof before both were re-activated. It can happen to legit customers.

Now I stick with Pages. Was going to switch to Office but I really don't like the Ribbon interface.

But Apple didn't say that they would never put 3G in their devices did they. They just explained why it was not in their current device. On the MAS Apple has said many times that the MAS would not be the only place to get your Apps.

There is no fundamental reason to think that Apple would consider such an option because of the core number of Apps that Apple themselves uses daily to do their jobs that are not (and currently cannot) be in the MAS. Apple knows this and is not going to do that. They are not going to shoot themselves in the foot that way. It just isn't going to happen the way the store is structured now. Apple has said over and over that they are not going to restrict the Apple platform and has given very specific reasons for that when talking to the press.

Apple has made a huge distinction between iOS and Mac OS. They are separate things.

Again, you might as well what would happen if Apple buys Adobe. And people have actually suggested that Apple ought to do that even though there is no basis for that either outside of their dreams.

eBay and Craigslist

For those of you that want a free trial before you buy, what if you just got one of eBay or CL or another website? True, you might spend a little bit more, but then if you do like it, you'd be saving even more money doing it that way.

In fact, there's a boxed version selling for $30 brand new. So..there you go.

And the boxed version is not just one license. As long as you register the serial number with your AppleID, you can install it it on any other machine that you have linked with it. I know because I bought the boxed version of iWork '09 when I got my iMac and have it installed on my 2011 MBP.

When's the last time they even updated iwork? 3 years ago at least?

My disk says December 2008. That makes it nearly 3.5 years since the last update. With only iOS updates I don't ever think to use it.

With no chance to purchase a discounted dvd from Amazon or such I would have to pay a much higher price by the app. So then I would not be purchasing 3 separate apps but only Pages. Numbers have proved to be in a beginning state for way too long. It seems that Apple is doing there long time thing of starting what could be a nice program only to stop it but not selling the code to anyone else to continue.

iWork needs a lot more updating to be useful. But with 4-5 years between changes it has become a joke. Or does that mean that it has become as iOS app to run on my iToys, not an entry level program to be used on my Mac?

Aperture trial still up

It's still there.

Google is your friend.

"Thank You."

(that was a hint there in the quotes)
