I already have 2 HomePods and a mini and absolutely love the full sized HomePods. The sound of the mini just doesn’t compare.

Was planning a third some day… Some day is today.

I got my first one to see what it was like. I got my second one because the first one sounded so good and was a great match for my Apple TV. I'm keeping them as the sound system for the tv in my bedroom until they no longer work which I hope is a long, long time.

will be annoying if they stopped homekit support. i would have to DOWNGRADE the big HomePods to use the HomePod mini for my security cameras and smart lights.
I don’t think this can happen as HomeKit (AFAIK) is solely based on your local network (with the exception of the remote access via home hub).

If they did do this, I’d be going back to Google Home. I’m in a bad mood with Apple at the moment because I was denied a battery replacement at the Apple Store today on my iPhone XS since the health was 87%. Didn’t matter I wanted to PAY for it, they apparently know better than me. Needless to say, Apple being anti-consumer again by remotely executing HomePods would just push me over the edge.

macOS is the only thing keeping me tied to the company.

Look, I’m sorry but Siri has fallen so far behind the competition that it’s barely even usable anymore.

I have no idea how Apple ever expected to sell a Siri device for $250 when Alexa devices are sometimes as low as $25.

I’m sure the HomePod series has really amazing audio quality, but it doesn’t really matter if the whole device barely works.

$25? I have several Alexa powered devices that Amazon sent me for free when I bought other Amazon products.

At the risk of going off topic... the product you shared an image of and said is a bigger version of kellogg's frosted mini-wheat isn't made or sold by kellogg's...
Kelogg doesn't own 'Shredded wheat. It's like saying paper or cheese. It's just a generic product.

Apple doesn't seem to "get" that a voice assistant is most useful when you can interact with it all over the place.

Doing what it takes to get Alexa "everywhere" is the right strategy from Amazon.

And then there's whole quality part. I can't believe Siri is still only where it is after all these years.
Apple started on this before the others also - it's crazy!

Talk about "blowing a lead"

The addition of Thread in that HP Mini is going to be a game changer in smart home business. Big things ahead for the Mini besides its good sound. It works great with my Nanoleaf essentials which run on Thread - seamless and speedy interaction.

I mean, it’s pretty obvious people are buying them. There’s a huge comment section here of people who own 2...

Question is when did they buy them? How have sales moved in response to the homepod mini?

At one point there were lots of Playstation 2s in circulation, but Sony stopped making them eventually.

To those claiming this doesn't look good for AppleTV.... why?

Apple is pouring a TON of money into AppleTV+, they aren't going to abandon an AppleTV which is a cheap device to make and sells well enough.
Apple introduced Fitness+ which honestly sucks on an iPhone but is great on AppleTV, and doesn't even run on a Mac.

Its going no where.
You can also listen to music on your AppleTV, which means its a Bring Your Own Speaker more advanced HomePod

And it probably sold 10x what HomePod sold. MacRumors forums is likely the worst place to go for statistics on how many people bought the dang thing.

Oh, and how much does Apple care about promoting TV+? My MBP16 didn't activate the free year of AppleTV, and Apple after several hours of having me on hold decided it was easier to send me a new AppleTV (which i didn't need, I already owned several) to trigger the subscription because getting another subscriber was what they cared about. AppleTV is a gateway into 3 subscription services (oh, arcade exists? 4?), its not going away.

Damnit. I finally decided I wanted to jump on two for the tv to replace my 14 year old Bose 123. Maybe I can score a deal.

anyone really happy with two minis connected to Apple TV? I’ve played through one and can’t see two being that great.

Yes, if by “barely works” you mean Siri “almost always works for all important functions” then that’s totally been my experience as well.

The only trouble I have with Siri is on the HomePod, and only when I have another Apple product with me. Otherwise it does absolutely everything I need it to. I don’t know wtf you’re talking about.
