With today's announcement of the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, Apple has officially discontinued the iPhone SE and the iPhone 6s, the two iPhones that it was selling as its most affordable smartphones.

The iPhone SE was Apple's last remaining 4-inch device, and now the smallest phone that Apple sells is the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 and iPhone 8.

Apple has also discontinued the iPhone X, something that we were expecting based on rumors. The iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max replace the iPhone X.

Apple's new lineup is as follows:

[*]iPhone 7 with pricing starting at $449
[*]iPhone 7 Plus with pricing starting at $569
[*]iPhone 8 with pricing starting at $599
[*]iPhone 8 Plus with pricing starting at $699
[*]iPhone XR with pricing starting at $749
[*]iPhone XS with pricing starting at $999
[*]iPhone XS Max with pricing starting at $1,099

The iPhone 7 is now Apple's cheapest device at $449, which is $100 more expensive than the now-discontinued 32GB $349 iPhone SE. With the discontinuation of the iPhone 6s and the iPhone SE, Apple no longer sells an iPhone that includes a headphone jack.

The iPhone 7 models come with 32 or 128GB of storage, while the iPhone 8 models are available with 64 or 256GB of storage. The iPhone XR is available with 64, 128, or 256GB of storage, while the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are available with 64, 256, or 512GB of storage.

Apple's iPhone XS and XS Max smartphones will be available for pre-order this Friday, with a release date coming on September 21, while the iPhone XR will be available for pre-order on October 19 with a ship date of October 26.

Thank You, Mister Cook, for eliminating the only small phone in your line up. The only Phone, that is not a ridiculous phablet.

I had no idea, that You zeroed out customer satisfaction.

And still no new mac mini. Apple just hit rock bottom.

Bozos all over the place.

Steve would have never allowed this.

Does anyone have the monthly break downs for what the iPhone Xs and Xs Max will be through Apple Upgrade program?

The SE had a good run. A solid phone, 4 inch Form factor and great battery life. Ultimately, I was hoping it would be updated, because there is a demographic that really does appreciate the 4 inch smaller form factor, but it didn’t surprise me either that they decide to discontinue it.

If anyone has a link to a comparison between the X and the one just announced that's "comparable" I'd really appreciate it.

Bummer about the SE, but since the 6s it was based on is gone...I was really hoping they'd upgrade it. Seems like the Xr will pick up the battery life mantle from the SE. They said 1.5 hrs longer than the 8 Plus....bring it on.

...What's the difference between the XR and the XS? Different camera? The processor is still the same right?

The Xr has the same main Camera and CPU (just no zoom camera). Doesn't have 3d touch (has something else to get by with) and no OLED. But its bigger than the Xs and will have the longest battery life of them all - 1.5hrs longer than a 8 Plus. Value wise if you can live without the Zoom camera and OLED it knocks it out of the park compared to the Xs and Maxi Xs. JHMO...

I had to go to a meeting. New Airpods or no?

No mention and no mention of the charging mat - seems like a technical bridge too far for them there.

Dissappointed that dropping the phone sized iPhone SE, bought 1 along with 9.7" iPad Pro on launch day.

My fleece internal pockets let me carry the iPad Pro around so when will want the larger screen can easily take my iPad with me.

Rest of the time the iPhone SE was nice and discreet size, large enough for a quick search to settle a discussion down the pub without being bulky.
