Apple + discount does not fit in one sentence.

Umm, $380 is a discount in my book.

Yeah well call it what you want, refurbished is not exactly new in my book. Apple may repackage it, wrap it in a brand new box and give it a fresh warranty. It's still not new, thus it HAS to be "discounted"

Jeez. Fine. I'll correct my original post:

"I hope they're coming up with something better for what they've charged for these until now.

Hope to see some discounted heavily in the refurb store."

I swear, at this rate, they may as well just kill the entire Mac line and get it over with!

AUGH! How I DESPISE Apple right now! Betrayal after betrayal after betrayal! Thunderbolt displays were always an incompatibility JOKE, but this takes the cake!

I'm calling it: Apple is going to kill the entire Mac line in the next 5 years and do NOTHING but their garbage iToys.
Betrayal? really? A company discontinuing an arguably overpriced monitor for it's resolution constitutes betrayal? As multiple commenters have stated, their are higher res monitors for a similar price point, or you can stick with 1440p and get a high quality panel for a much lower price.

I personally think this is the end of the Cinema Displays. I suspect like many 4K or 5K displays It'll end up costing a lot more to produce than an iMac, and people will likely just opt for the 27" 5K iMac's.

Now obviously I could be wrong, but at this time Dell offers a 5K display at $2199USD, HP at $1999USD. While an iMac 27" 5K goes for $1799USD.

Plus when you have a statement like "There are a number of great third-party options available for Mac users," said an Apple spokesperson." That to me implies that Cinema Display's are over forever :p.

Sadly, Apple may be moving away for good from Mac line-up to iOS gadgets.
The trash can design for Mac Pro may be the swan song to professional desktop
I wish & hope Apple would stay in the laptop & desktop business

Apple has to stay in the Mac business to support all those iOS gadgets because you can only develop iOS apps on a Mac.

The times that any developer could be noticed in the AppStore is an exception these days.
The store is dominated by a few big players and a mass of cookie cutter Apps that make no sense.
Any big company can support iOS with minimal investment, there is no need at all for Apple to care about the Mac business. Automated command line builds do work today.
There is no need to invest in new hardware.
