just curious is apple is going to be discontinuing the 10.5 pro model fairly soon or going to hold onto it for a bit now that the new models have been released. Im leaning towards a 10.5 pro more and more as I research but wondering if I should wait for a sale or grab it now before they discontinue it

Wait for a sale. It will be around until at least Spring when they will update the iPad mini.

The Mini is dead. Apple is trying to place the iPad as a real PC replacement, that means apps being optimised for screens >9 inches. The iPhone X platform replaced the Mini.
iPhone X is not the same aspect ratio. It's not a suitable replacement. That is why the iPad mini will be introduced this Spring with Apple Pencil support.

Regardless, the 10.5 is not being discontinued in the near future.

There almost certainly won't be a Mini or SE replacement for that matter next year. It's not in Apple's strategy. It wouldn't surprise me if Apple went the other way and introduced an even larger iPad at some point, maybe 15".

Ming-Chi Kuo is usually pretty accurate with his reports, and he has stated Apple will be releasing an updated iPad mini late this year or early next year. He said it would have a lower cost panel, like the 2018 iPad does compared to the iPad Air 2.

It would make sense for Apple to release the updated iPad mini in the spring next year like they released the 2018 iPad.
[doublepost=1541155611][/doublepost]But I agree with everyone that iPad 10.5 is not going anywhere.

Did everyone not see the keynote slide? They specifically noted that the 10.5" pro is sticking around for $650 (The same price it was before.) It even has its own link/page on the main iPad site on apple.com. My guess is it sticks around till the iPad Pro refreshes again next year.

Are you people familiar with what I call “keep it around just in case some business or school district needs it” Apple products?

The most egregious example was the 2012 Ivy Bridge 13” MBP with
- Superdrive
- full size ethernet
- firewire
- USB

They keep that around for 4 years, the last of its kind.

The iPad Mini 4 is another one of those.
The 2014-2018 Mac Mini could also be considered one.

As for the 10.5” iPad Pro I don’t know how long it’ll be around...the biggest threat to its long term existence is the pencil-enabled 2018 iPad 9.7” as the definitive heir of the home-button iPads..

It’s a big jump to go from $329 to $799, so a $649 10.5” can still make a lot of sense. Plus, they will keep the A10X around for a couple more years, because it’s also used in the Apple TV 4K model.
