The Apple Watch accounted for 51.4 percent of worldwide smart watch market revenue brought in during the first half of 2020, according to new data shared today by Counterpoint Research.

Apple has dominated the smart watch market for years now, and the first half of 2020 is no exception. Other smart watch vendors didn't even come close to Apple's smart watch shipment revenue share, with Garmin devices responsible for 9.4 percent of revenue and Huawei devices responsible for 8.3 percent.

Total global smart watch shipments grew 20 percent year over year even amid the pandemic, with Apple's own shipments growing 22 percent. In total, close to 42 million smart watches were shipped in the first half of 2020.

By shipment volume, the Apple Watch Series 5 was the best selling smart watch worldwide in the first half of 2020, followed by the more affordable Apple Watch Series 3. The Huawei Watch GT2 and the Galaxy Watch Active 2 were the number three and four best selling watches, respectively.
"Apple continued to dominate the smartwatch market both in volume and value. Apple captured a record half of the market in terms of revenue due to strong demand for the Apple Watch S5 models. In terms of shipment volumes, Apple Watch grew 22% globally with Europe and North America being the fastest growing markets in the first half of 2020."
Counterpoint Research expects that fall detection and SPO2 will be two key features that will see mass adoption in future smart watch models. Apple has already implemented fall detection, and rumors have suggested that blood oxygen monitoring could be a feature included in the Apple Watch Series 6.

Blood oxygen monitoring would allow the Apple Watch to measure the amount of oxygen in the blood, as this reading can be helpful to know whether to seek immediate medical attention.

I think a big part of this was recent discounts. I upgraded from series 3 to 5 for $140 after I sold my S3

I've been using my Apple Watch from V.3 and I have to say - I've come to depend on it and find it very useful. I wasn't first in line and wasn't sure I'd find it useful - but I look forward to upgrading soon because when I don't have it on I 'feel' it in more ways than I expected.

I'm surprised Garmin is so low, their watches are really amazing.
The still are still growing despite having second class API access compared to Apple's watch.

And Garmin is more focused on fitness and frankly there are only so many fit people - especially in the U.S. 😂

Bought (and still wear) the first gen Apple Watch (which can no longer run current WatchOS) and will finally upgrade with the next Apple Watch release.

Congrats to Garmin growing as well!

Nice to have choices and competition in the space.
Garmin is more of a sports watch with some smart features. They are rather pricey. So, Garmin does well in their 'market'.

Garmin has a HUGE european following!

I really like the 6s pro but the 9 days battery life is too low for me and the 6 pro ist a bit big. And they're too expensiv, I don't even use GPS all that much. I just hope the Amazfit Stratos 4 will be good.

This is Apple's world, while everyone's just living in it. One analyst said it best by stating that Apple is now considered a "utility". The crazy thing is that now just about one and every 3rd person owns at least 4-5 Apple products. That's called branding and putting a stamp on the market.

I don't see it ever becoming a Mainstream product, except for those over 70 OR so, where I think it's a great fit, & that some Gov'ts should even subsidize the cost !

Health & Wellness for those over 70 OR so is a great fit for it !

I see that in Silicon Valley, & I know Tim Cook feels that way as well, based-upon his comments (about it) the past few years !

I mean no brainer tho. I have a couple of friends who chose Fitbits instead, they regret their purchase now haha.

I remember all the “Apple is doomed” crowd saying the Apple Watch would fail. That it is too expensive and ugly.

Wonder where those people are now???

Still here!
Was wrong with Apple is doomed in sense of money but not in sense of innovation
Apple Watch I consider a fail, although I have one and like it as a fashion item and holiday payment processor.

Kudos to Tim Hollywood for not only surviving but cashing in ... business is still bull **** bingo, with jobs and new tech some of us thought it will change, admit being wrong! New hope is Elon! Let’s see how this saga ends.
