It will be better if 1 mil from Tim Cook, and Apple matches his donation with another mil. That is 2 mil dollars.Kudos, and thank you for your humanity.
There will be some who will ask "Why not one billion". Regardless, any help is welcome.

If you own a business and hired someone to manage it. this business makes 200K$ a year of profits. this manager decided on his own to donate 40K$ to charity. how do you feel as a business owner? This would be like someone who's making $100K per year donating like $0.50. Pathetic amount, Apple.
I lived there for about 6-7 years, right now the exchange rate to the € is highest it has ever been, or lowest value for Indonesians, it's 17,300ish today.
While that seems a lot prices went up and up and up last decade and especially last 2 years, more so than most other countries.
My girlfriend is Indonesian, right now she is there and tells me many times you can buy less and less for their Rp.
Yes, 1 Million is a lot for Indonesian standards, you can buy a house and never work again but 1 Million $ is not a lot for help regarding this earthquake and Tsunami, probably a billion or more is needed to recover from this disaster.
The big one which hit Aceh more than a decade ago far exceeded 1 Billion $.
It would probably cost you a few cents or far less.
This is by far the most selfish/greedy post I read in years.
As an Apple share holder I strongly condemn this. I will do the charity myself. As an individual, Apple employees and the CEO can do charity themselves. To take money from Shareholders and then use that to do charity is not right. After a point it's illegal and we shareholders will sue the company.
Well I don't really mean that. I was just saying that to point out to the people who will complain that a company with billions is only paying one million.
I hope people understand that this is Sarcasm. There are replies to this post that seem like some are not getting it.

What part of Apple is owned by shareholders do you not understand? In essence, "Apple" can't give our money away.I know they don't have to give at all but that seems like a pathetic amount. According to some sources, they make 5.3 million dollars every hour.
This site gives sobering statistics.

You do realize that everything he wrote was sarcasm right?
Just a general FYI, as someone who has worked peripherally in the non-profit space, processing, distribution, management and handling of too much funding sometimes leads to problems. i.e., it likely wouldn't even be advisable for Apple just to toss $xxxM at the relief effort even if they wanted to.
Note the bold ...

Edit: Oops, Sarcasme.
I think I had a brainfart.
My apologies.

In proportion to the amount they make and their margins, it's pathetic.I think everyone should do a little bit of research first before they start their bickering on amounts being pathetic. Do you think Apple has only donated to this? Apple has probably donated tens of millions of dollars in 2017 alone. Last year for Hurricane Harvey and Irma they donated over $10 million. Apple has contributed over $130 million over the course of 10 years, that's $13 million every year just on fighting HIV/AIDS. I think it's very short of pathetic whether they donated 1 dollar or 10 million to any cause (they don't have to it's not an obligation), it's the intent and the promotion for others to do the same what matters because I don't think Apple needs any more publicity for itself.
Yup, $1 million will certainly help just about as much as $0.50. Totally. This would be like someone who's making $100K per year donating like $0.50. Pathetic amount, Apple.
Ooohhh, ohhh...and $2M would be even better. And $4M even better than that! How about $8M?It will be better if 1 mil from Tim Cook, and Apple matches his donation with another mil. That is 2 mil dollars.
They CAN'T give sums that exceed anything even somewhat large because Apple is owned by shareholders who want a return on their investment.Thank you Apple.
Yes, they could have given more but it's a good gesture. Let's appreciate that. Also if you want, you can personally donate to make up for Apples.
Anyways, let's hope it reaches the needy.
The SHAREHOLDERS own Apple, so any donation is PURELY optional. We don’t want Apple donating our money and they have a responsibility to create shareholder value, NOT prop up charities. In proportion to the amount they make and their margins, it's pathetic.
Of course, those saying not enough probably are not donating anything themselves. Before anyone says it’s not enough, remember 2 things:
- Apple is owned by the shareholders and has a fiduciary responsibility to maximize their value, not donate money. They don’t have to donate anything.
- $1M is still a lot of money.

I will conform to the typical approximation Apple PR of us herds and sayBefore anyone says it’s not enough, remember 2 things:

You’re partly misinformed. The warning system (as far as there was) was reset upon the volcanologists’ advise of no tsunami dangerI think a lot of the blame has to go to the Indonesian Government for the amount of people that have been killed because they have not maintained the Tsunami Early Warning System which has not been working as designed since 2012! This was a disaster waiting to happen but the consequences to human life could have been somewhat mitigated.
Could ask how much Tim Cook donated also. Or could show that some individuals donated double than what Apple did the last time.
Individuals that are not valued at one trillion dollars.Apple is doing this for pr and advertising.

LOL... Thats not how it works...They're doing it for the tax deduction.
