I think balanced reporting is what I am after. This site does a mix of each, and whilst some stuff is interesting, I’m kind of over 'a person close to the source'. But I get that don’t care about facts, and that’s fine for some. Macrumors is big enough to filter out junk.
I agree, there are definitely some "leakers" that shouldn't be allowed on this website. Nonetheless, there will always be some dubious reports that are true, but you only know whether it is true in retrospect, unfortunately.

That's how "rumors" work... you don't always know.

Dropping things while under scrutiny is never a good look. Nerves get to the best of us. I just hope the person that had that role didn’t hurt themselves too much after being dropped. Unless I read this wrong twice… and the Apple dropped while they forgone the observer role. Ah, I think that’s what it was, the penny drops now.

It’s about time the Apple dropped… it’s been ripe for picking for some time now 😆

For once I want to see a story that says "according to Apple" instead of Gurman/Kuo/Financial Times/Prosser…
This website is merely an aggregate of technology news and Apple rumors…similar to Drudge.

When it comes to genuine tech/business news the MacRumor bloggers merely summarize what is being reported by genuine journalists from the Internet attaching links to their stories.

When it comes to Apple rumors they post whatever speculation they find online that might generate general readership interest.

I recommend getting paid subscriptions to your preferred tech and business news sites for your news. Arm yourself with the information from the original sources, as much as possible. Come here only for your reading entertainment.

They don't. You have full control over what's sent to ChatGPT and you can choose not to use it.

Also, privacy ≠ secrecy. Privacy shouldn''t mean that no one gets your data at all but you should be in control of who gets your data.
Read again, I'm not complaining about the privacy itself, just about how the operation is judged by many privacy-obsessed users.
Privacy was already compromised by their Google deals. You're in control if you know what it's about but your iPhone as is basically sells your data to Google.
But AI is going to change everything and if you want the new features, you just have to accept this partnership. I truly wish Apple had their own AI.
About a year ago, when people started asking "Did you do your AI homework or wasted all your money on a failed TV, a failed car and a risky VR visor?" Apple shyly said they had their own AI projects. With the GPT use announcement, we know it was just lies, they've basically never invested in AI in a meaningful way. And now they have to buy it from other people.

Good. Generative AI is snake oil and it is impossible to deliver what its Silicon Valley salesmen keep promising— that it is thisclose to an AGI. Even Goldman Sachs who would sell its own mother if it produced a profit, has done their homework and thinks AI is worthless. This fad has one of the shortest cycles, shorter than crypto, and it’s going to be something everyone with a reputation to maintain tries to pretend didn’t happen in a few more years.

Nuke the whole "working with OpenAI" thing completely
Toxic company with toxic ideals ... trying to push a questionably useful, overly resource intensive, "product" ... created by stealing content from anywhere and everywhere.

Just skip it and do your own thing Apple
You already pushed this to 2025 anyhow -- just cut out the OpenAI part altogether

truly unable to see the harm in someone from either Apple or Microsoft taking a non-voting role on the OpenAI board, given the companies are actively working together—is this a conflict of interest? I feel like I’m missing something basic here, if anyone is so inclined as to enlighten me

Good to know about this. Still expecting privacy standards of Apple being maintained

From who, Microsoft?
They own OpenAI, more or less.
Yes.

Jan 2024 - A Microsoft rep joined the OpenAI board.

Mar 2024 - The European Commission made inquiries of Microsoft, Google, Meta and others about their investments in A.I. startups and since sent follow-up questions to Microsoft about its investment in OpenAI.

July 2024 - An Apple rep joined the OpenAI board.

July 2024 - Microsoft and Apple reps drop off the OpenAI board.

That entire Microsoft involvement in OpenAI was fine for all this time, but having one Apple observer triggers scrutiny because of antitrust issues? 🧐

The timeline does not agree with you.

I don't want my data to be encrypted by an application on a device. Most of the data on my Mac and iPhone should be unencrypted. If the data is encrypted by each application, it means I have to use that application to access my data.
I can see where you are coming from, I kind of agree, but if you save documents on the main Mac drive, then it is encrypted anyway.

If you have an issue with it, you can turn it off, but denying users the choice is wrong
Not denying it to anyone, just don't want it stuffed in the Os and in every flipping App they seem fit to put it in. I came away from Windows because of that, and now Apple seems to want to do the same thing with macOS. I should have gone with my origianl idea, use Linux.
