Apple earbuds open up iTunes...

I just got a pair of new standard Apple earbuds with the mic and when plugged into my MacBook (late '08) iTunes keeps randomly opening. Sometimes music starts playing, with the odd pause and restart.

Is this a known thing, or are my earbuds faulty?

No.

If you are not clicking the button, then there could be a faulty wire thats sending the signal to the computer.

One thing I've just noticed is that I can wiggle the jack a little bit. My older apple earbuds fit nice and snug and don't move a bit...
