They raised the price of the base-flagship mode (iPhone 7S aka 8) from $649 -> $699 making consumers think twice. iPhone X is basically a very niche fanboy edition (with features removed - TouchID).

I can't help but think that Apple has shot themselves in the foot this time. I would not be suprised if they miss the earnings estimates
 
We hear this everytime Apple announces incremental price increases, and everytime Apple blows Wall Street expectations out of the water.
 
I think the bigger issue is the delayed shipping date, this will mean they lose an entire month of revenue on the X.
