So because someone wants to save some money, it makes this ok? If he goes along to the store and a dumb, desperate for sales Apple rep permits it then so be it.

However, it is TRUE that buying something for someone else on edu discount when you are not an edu customer yourself is breaking the rules.

I'm done.

David

I have been a student in the Univ. for 7 years because I am doing the write up of my thesis they did not offer me a renewed NUS Card (student card). Although I am still using the same office and PC they gave me and they extended my expired student card so I can use it to open closed doors. Doors that I can't use the keys they gave me to open. I ordered a HE discounted MBP, am I by any chance abusing Apple?

If my parents were still alive and wanted to buy me a Mac, they wouldn't get education discount just because I am at university.

Parent purchasing on behalf of their child who is a student currently attending or accepted into public or private Higher Education Institution.

Yes, they would.

Doesn't need to be an ID. There are all sorts of ways you could prove you're a student. But your point still stands. ;)

Actually, I'm not saying all this to encourage people abusing the Apple Education Discount. I agree it's wrong and not right for other when you're arent qualify. Of course this isn't the case and not what I'm doing. Unfortunately, fews on here think that I'm actually abusing the Apple Education Discount for my own good and that isn't helping me. I call Apple up and do more research about their policy with education discount. Apple stating that they have the right to call your school and checkup on you when they feel it's suspicious. Buy with edu discount for someone who have qualify education is ok. Buying for yourself when you're not qualify for edu discount of course is abusing the system, you may get caught and they may change their policy if it get abuse too many times. Ok, just want to clear that up!

I think you need to straighten out your logic. Name-calling? I refrained from calling you anything.

You ARE abusing the education discount. It doesn't matter if you are buying it for someone else who is in college. The point is, it is NOT her money. YOU are not at school/college/university. YOU are bending the rules to suit your situation. If my parents were still alive and wanted to buy me a Mac, they wouldn't get education discount just because I am at university.

If you gift your sister the money - then it is her choice to buy a Mac with edu discount or not. But, if you are using a credit card, the money is in no way hers (or even yours).

So, in summary, you have NO right to purchase anything with education discount from Apple (or anyone else).

This is whether your story about it being for someone else is all BS or not. It doesn't matter.

David

David,

This is a direct quote from apples sales and return policy.

Higher Education Parents - Parents purchasing on behalf of their child, who is a student currently attending or accepted into a public or private Higher Education Institution in the United States, are eligible to purchase.

Apparently you don't know everything you think you do. It's jerks like you that get on these forums and piss other people off. If this dude wants to buy a macbook for his sister from the Apple site he can do so. It's not bending the rules and it's not abusing the system. If you parents were still alive they COULD buy you a computer from their site and they COULD get the higher education discount.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, :p

Aaron

My sister is attending College, but I'm using my Credit Card. Is this possible?

Put the order through under her name, address, etc., but pay with your name and credit card details. Same as with most other online stores.

I've done this before with a non-profit community organisation who is allowed education pricing from Apple. They didn't have a credit card, so we put the order through under the Manager's name, the organisation's contact details, and paid using my credit card. This was a couple of years ago, so I'm not sure if Apple have changed the process or if the US process is different from here in New Zealand.

The manager never said anything to me (and there's no reason she would have), but Apple no doubt do run at least random spot-checks to catch people who are actually trying to abuse the system. Using someone else's credit card may also thrown up a red "please check" flag at Apple's end.

You should also keep in mind that the educational discount is for people using the hardware / software for educational purposes ... for example, even if you're a college student, you can not buy a Mac and Adobe software at educational pricing to set-up your own part-time desktop publishing business.

I purchased a macbook for my grand daughter because she was starting college and I used my credit card to buy the computer for her. This was at the Apple store in Jacksonville and she had a receipt from the college showing that she was a student. Apple doesn't care who buys and pays for a computer as long as it is for whom it is intended i.e. student!
