I thought that home school teachers were removed from this offer already? Anyway, if it is still there, how would one prove they are teaching like in your example above? I mean they don't just let you place the order, there must be some checks at some point where you give some proof, or is there?

There is no way for Apple to check that you’re not a parent or an Amish homeschool teacher.

Apple resellers like Best Buy regularly have sales that match Apple edu prices, so you can tell Apple margins at regular prices are pretty high.

That's what I've found, the edu discount isn't usually the best deal you can get. Refurbished macs are usually better too. It's good for when you want a BTO though, then those discounts ramp up... but it's on top of the expensive upgrade prices.

Teaching homeschool students is what I use to justify my edu purchase... but you could walk down the street shouting your times tables and technically be right.

It probably costs more to verify accounts than the money lost from scammers. And a Mac user is more likely to use an iPhone... which doesn't have an edu discount.

Has anyone received their $150 gift card for preordering through the education store yet?

Does Open University (online university) students qualify for Apple EDU discount and back to school offer?

This is in EU area if that makes any difference. From what I read the terms PDF they seemed pretty much identical between EU and USA, however I did not see any mention if Open University students qualify or not, it just talks about higher educations students which in my understanding Open University is also considered. But around here Open University students cannot get student ID card which in some cases is required for student discount in brick and mortar shops.

I had to wait 5 days to place another Education store order after cancelling mine to change the color. Bummer, but it did re-set after 5 days.

How does it work with the gift card offer? Do they just void the gift card and you get the full price of the laptop refunded to your credit card?
I just canceled my order and they refunded the $150 gift card charge. But I believe if your order has shipped, your cc is charged and you receive your gift card. They will refund the computer price. The gift card is non-refundable so you get charged the $150 and the gift card is yours to keep.

Ugh that’s what I feared. Now I’m stuck with a $150 gift card. I already placed a new order for a different color MBA.

Did your original computer ship already? I canceled my midnight before it shipped because I didn't want scuffed ports and reordered another color. After debating about just keeping the midnight that was supposed to ship this week.

Yes it just arrived today. :(

Since the Apple Educational Store along with its discounts is an honor-based system, there's no reason why you can't rightfully purchase a Mac that way. You are, after all, a student enrolled in an online university, so go ahead and order what you want.

I think @0906742 is in the UK. So I don't know if its just the honor-based system on the apple site. I thought my friends in the UK had to get verified from UNiDAYS to get the edu discount.

The limit is only enforced per-transaction. If you add multiple Macs to your bag it will tell you to remove them. They do not enforce a 'per year' limit. I have broken the limit multiple times over the past decade. Last year I bought an M1 iMac, 14" MacBook Pro, M1 11" iPad Pro and iPad mini 6. They have never complained.

Education discount is nice, but it's not as good a deal as it used to be. You used to get 10% discount, plus 3 years of AppleCare for free. Now it's a fixed discount (50 or 100 bucks off the price) and no free AppleCare.

It's a trust-based system in the US, but they do random checks. In other countries, you need a university login to access the store. In the UK, for example, they use federated login via Shibboleth or Azure to your university through Unidays.

I don't know if they changed the policy, but I was 100% not able to re-order my MBA for five days after cancelling my preorder because the Education Store discount had to reset in the system.

I'm live in EU (Not UK, it is no longer part of EU anyway) but here they require UNIDAYS only for Apple Music student discount but I'm not sure how they possibly check your student status for other gear these days as there does not seem to be any redirect to UNIDAYS when placing order for other than Apple Music. I understood they do periodical checks and I don't want to risk of getting blacklisted from their store in case my understanding of Open University student eligibility was wrong. My wife ordered few years ago from their online store as student when she was in actual University (but that was still part time study at own time while working full day normally) and that did quality. They did not contact to check that specifically but they briefly asked that during one call to support kind of a "by the way" question.

Mine was the same way - I will add that calling Apple enabled their customer service team to submit a ticket to have this block manually removed, and I was able to re-order after about 12 hours.
