Question, does anyone know if an Apple employee can let their friend use their employee discount to buy a MBP?

There is a program that Apple Employees can use to purchase item for Friends and Family. This is not the same discount they can get for personal items. They have lots of rules about purchasing items for personal use. They can't get personal items for family or friends or for gifts and there is usually a hard limit of 1 per year.

The F&F program is where they would buy an item for a friend, but I don't think you can return items but the discount is good.

Apple Discount

Ok, lets set the record straight. There are 3 discounts regularly offered besides things like quarterly specials and in store discounts. There is the everyday 10% off anything in the store, period. The employee can purchase for friends, provided no reselling. Ok, number 2, online back of store ordering for friends and family, 15%, anything that is on the apple web site. However, sometimes when new items are out, and supplies are constrained, the employee site shows the item, but it is blacked out. This happened for the Nehalem mac pros for about 2 months. The ipad and iphone are never on this site. Ipod touches are for sale as are all ipods in general. Also all third party accessories are also 10% off. Oh and they are technically limited to 3 computers per year, technically. Finally personal purchases, one system per year, and as many apple accessories at 25% off, again back of store only online. They get bigger discounts on software, and applecare (33% off), and some other miscellaneous deals (like 50% off b&w in store promo). Now they don't technically check on every back of store purchases but employees don't want to get fired over this stuff.

BTW (my MacBook Pro 17, core i7, SSD 512 cost me $3000 after employee discount :) )
and yes, you can return items, except CTO items.

My brother let me use his 25% discount to purchase a core i7 15MBP. The employee discount saved me nearly $800. What a great guy!! but then again, he lives with me rent free :) and I do the shopping/cooking. so I think thats fair

I too can verify the Friends and Family discount is available for the new MBP. I saved $450 on my new 17" i7 with 8gb of Ram. The only downfall is I have to wait for the darn thing. It should ship today or tomorrow though. I ordered it last week.

I'm glad I caught this thread.
my neighbor's son works at an apple retail store and she said she was going to receive a 15% discount to apple but had no use for it and offered it to me.

unknown to her, I'm actually a pc to mac convert waiting to happen!!!
I intend to buy the new 13" mbp along with the new iPhone coming out in June.

my questions are:
1) this 15 or 17% friends n family discount, is that in the form of a coupon or is this something that the apple employee needs to buy on his/her own and have it shipped to the friend? and he/she can only do this 3 times a yr with no limit?i.e can an employee buy 3 mbp's on 3 consecutive days and be done with the yearly quota?
in that case, how does the payment thing work?
i.e in my case, even though I know the neighbor very very well, I don't know the son that well and should I just give him my credit card to make the purchase?

2) starting next month, apple 'may' run the back to school special where they include an apple ipod touch for free with purchase of any mbp.
so, if the employee were to make a F&F purchase then, can he also get a touch for free?

3) is the iPhone included in F&F sale?
if yes, does it make sense to wait till June/July and order all 3 things at once, the mbp, the free touch and the iPhone, will this be possible?

any info would be greatly appreciated!
thanks

my questions are:

<snip>

Can't you ask directly? Anyone that answers these questions could get themselves, or someone they know, into trouble for giving away tmi online.

You can't combine student and staff discount though, I know that. It's one or the other - work out which benefits you more, and if it's worth waiting for something that may or may not happen!

For instance the education discount on AppleCare, plus iPod, was a better deal than F&F when I got my MBP. but the deal's not on now, so...

And there are no discounts on iPhone or iPad, period

Now the natural followup

Does anyone who has access to the discount and live in the LA area want to be friends with me?

Wow...I need to find someone that works at an Apple store in Mass :)

Just bought a bunch of accessories too. I still need Applecare though.
