I agree with your comments. But in other threads you are such a cheerleader for spending lots of cash on the new iPhones etc. How do you reconcile your double personalities?
I'll share my game plan with you. (It's a work in progress).

I will stop using iCloud - Especially the Photos feature
I will not use my personal ID anymore
I plan on setting up the new iPhone as new

So far, this is all I have come up with :(

Nothing is going to stop me not upgrading to the new Apple iPhone.

Could governments force Apple to add non-CSAM images to the hash list?
"Apple will refuse any such demands."

As if the US doesn't have a secret document that they could pull out of a drawer that says Apple has to do as the American government says and if they tell anyone they go to prison for 25+ years...

Good, but sorry it's too late for me to stay with Apple.

I'm done with big tech. Bought a Nokia 5310 (2020) for calls and texts. That'll do.

I also have a wifi-only degoogled android for some apps when I'm at the house.

We'll see how it goes. I may take the degoogled android as the main phone in future, but for now, I'm going low-tech.
Our only power today is our economic power.
If every consumer who thinks this is a bad idea boycotts all services and social media platforms, their immediate loss of profits will make them all sit up take us seriously.
And if we vote out anyone who is pushing this big brother mentality on society, the politicians will also sit up and take us seriously.
If we do nothing but whine and keep giving them our money, we will get what we deserve.

Apple is not scanning your photos visually just the hash. Apple doesn't know what is in the photo until the hash match. Pedophiles should be scared, other people not.
Apple needs to figure out another way to catch Pedophiles. Scanning your photos or visually hashing it is not the strategic solution.

As a consumer, Why are we getting punished?

holy based!

The neat thing about this is that it's up to the each local government to expand the source databases to whatever they like.

How long would it take, for instance, the British government to expand the database to "CSAM and transphobia" database?

Imagine going to jail with the charge of "possession of materials displaying CSAM or transphobia" and now everyone thinks you're a pedo because you shared a meme about the "female" penis.

Up until now all of my data has been on a pair on macOS X Servers and I have only used iCloud to get data from "here to there". Since last week all my data is now on Synology NAS devices and because of DSM I don't even have iCloud Drive > Documents and Desktop turned on any more. This change to Synology NAS was always going to happen since Apple stopped supporting their Server product in a meaningful way but it couldn't have been more timely.

Unfortunately privacy is an "all or nothing" game and I thought Apple knew that!

My advice to most people that are truly concerned is to own their own "cloud".

Tim Cook when he saw 7000 signatures have been signed inside Apple to stop the deployment of CSAM.

That is correct but a physical Apple employee (that is a human being) will be reviewing the pictures once it gets flagged. That does not sound like a AI to me.

I don't think Apple explicitly said "Apple employee." Remember that Apple had no problem giving confidential SIRI materials to outside contractors, and we knew the "integrity" of those contractors....

All privacies are private, but some are more private than others. This is where I see this ending up. And Apple will 100% abide by the law in each of its markets, so when these laws inevitably come to pass in the passage of time - and they WILL - then this genie won’t go back in the bottle. I still think it’s a noble cause but no one is going to convince me that it’s a good idea.

Who told Apple it was Apple's job and mandate to catch pedophiles and if so, when?
If there is an official written order from some body I would appreciate it being posted.

Here’s how it works: Hashes of the known CSAM are stored on the device, and on-device photos are compared to those hashes. The iOS device then generates an encrypted “safety voucher” that’s sent to iCloud along with the image. If a device reaches a certain threshold of CSAM, Apple can decrypt the safety vouchers and conduct a manual review of those images. Apple isn’t saying what the threshold is, but has made clear a single image wouldn’t result in any action.

Bottom line: It will be reported to Law Enforcement. Just imagine the FBI is knocking on your door with a search warrant to go through your iPhone because of a detection caught during CSAM.

I get it, but at least Apple tells you.
How many companies and services are running this and not telling you?

And yeah a bit surprised by Apple’s move but if they only send a hash over the internet and you have done nothing wrong, why the worry.
