Somehow this seems sad to me. The whole fanfare for release date died with the watch. Now we pre-ordered two weeks ahead or reserved 4 days ahead. Waiting for release day and lining up at the apple store does not seem to be much of an option anymore. I actually enjoyed it and met great people. It is sad that Angela seems not interested in this at all.
Im not sure what you're on about. There will be plenty of people lined up on launch day.

What are you going to do with an unlocked Verizon phone? Switch to Sprint? lol.

Unlocking is most useful for AT&T because they run on GSM, which is widely used all over the world.

All models are GSM compatible now. The only thing the AT&T version has that the other model (which works on all carriers) doesn't is Band 30.

I'm one of the unlucky ones to pre-order this morning and get the '1-2 weeks' shipping estimate. I'm hoping it will be quicker than that if just yesterday I could have ordered and had guaranteed delivery on the 25th.
So why didn't you order yesterday? You did know that at some point, launch day availability would stop. You're not unlucky. You just didn't order on time.

You'd rather visit multiple stores than have it delivered directly to your door on launch day?
Most cell phone stores have enough on launch day to accommodate all customers that show up at a decent time. The Verizon store that my wife has worked at for the past four years have been able to sell to customers throughout the weekend.

Anyone else think Apple pulled the ability to pre-order to keep up the 6S hype? Usually most phones are shipping in 2-3 weeks by now, with only a handful doing that this time around. Even if they built more stock, they may have made too many to fuel the hype.

I don't get why you guys are so in love with preordering. Every year I've managed to get an iPhone on release day from a non-Apple dealer. I'd much rather stop by 2-3 stores and find my iPhone rather than wait 3 weeks. Just don't go to the cellphone carriers or Apple and you'll be fine.

Does this even make sense in your head before you write it?

Why do you have to go through the carrier?
Currently, if I go to the Apple website and try to order an AT&T iPhone, even when I select 'Pay in full', it asks me to input my nonexistent AT&T phone number and password. Currently I can't just buy the phone from the website, but I suspect I may be able to in the retail store like I can now on Day 1. The only problem is I doubt they'll have the model I want in-stock.

Still plenty ? What about same launching in China ? Most people who forms a line are Chinese, we all know about that, so cuz of them, for us usa citizens (I'm citizen for over 10 years, but most time i live in Italy - homeland) its impossible to buy phone Sept 25, I'm not one of this people who ready stay in line for 5-10-15 hours, no way.

Well also, found out today that my pre-order idea won't work. Purchased 2 plus' for a mid oct delivery and planned to return and re-purchase on the AUP plan. Won't work since my pre-ordered phones are AT&T and apparently the ones you walk in and buy (reserve) are the unlocked ones ;o/

I will just try each day at 8am and hope I can score a couple! Maybe it'll actually work out better and can get them sooner than my original 10/12-10/16 delivery date!
*crossing fingers*

The whole Chinese scalper thing is blown way out of proportion. I live in southern California and have lined up a few times. Sure, there are some scalpers in line, but it's mostly fellow geeks. I lined up for the 6 last year and had a good time.

By pre-ordering from Apple you get the phone delivered directly to your home on the day it becomes available in stores. Why on earth would you want to go to some crappy reseller to buy an iPhone?

Apple requires someone to be there to sign for the phone. I find that far more of a hassle that stopping by a store for a few minutes.

The vast majority of people preordering are not going to get their phones on launch day. Just look at the comments here, people are quoting mid-October dates.

It's not overblown here in the DC area. Every year, there are literally multiple generations of Asian all lined up for phones. And I know they're scalpers become some years I've had to go multiple mornings just to get one and have seen the same people first in line.

This year? I'm passing. Just not enough interest here. And I don't get how people are upset about having to wait 1-2 until they get they're phone. You've been waiting a year already, plus they always ship out earlier than that.

I think you've misunderstood. The vast majority ARE going to get it on Friday. Everyone who ordered right away over the first weekend. Although the Plus may have some issues, as a news story showed. A handful of psychos on MacRumors is not a majority, there were millions preordered.

If a person to sign for a delivery is an issue for me, I just send a package to work. But you can buy a phone however you want.

Ahh yes marketing... gotta love it.

Best way to have huge pre-order sales from week 1 and long lines at the stores for those who didn't

I'm thinking the best way is to do what Apple is doing, like selling a Gazillion iPhones in a short period of time.

While shipping estimates for iPhones 6s Plus models in particular quickly slipped to 2-3 weeks or longer following the start of pre-orders on September 12, many iPhone 6s models remained available for launch day delivery until today.
Macrumors really struggles with grammar. Do you guys read back what you write or have an editor? Commas are your friend.

That's too bad. I'm in Southern California and perhaps the 8% and up sales tax keeps some of them at bay. Don't get me wrong, we have plenty of scalpers in line but it's not near as bad as it is in a lot of areas. It has never really bothered me too much. Of course I try to get in line really early so that I have only 50 people or less in front of me. Walking around in the wee hours and talking to a few people, it can get a bit dicey the farther back in line you are.

DC Area is FULL of them, hundreds - I MEAN HUNDREDS of people - Chinese. scalpers. They don't even speak english, most of them may be has never held a 100 bill. Terrible. How do they get USA VISA - surprised.

Last year my brother got his iPhone 1-2 October, don't really remember, he tried 3 times to get 64 SG 6 , but couldn't, wataf*cckk ? Line Line Line ! 100 people, 95% scalpers, one nationality CHINESE !

Only 1 thing is ok, they are leaving money for it works to USA economy.

Actually, of the major carriers, Verizon and T-Mobile models all ship unlocked, and Sprint will generally unlock on request. AT&T is the one big holdout.
That's what Verizon told me too, phone is unlock. Got $100 credo and $200 for trade-in. No contract.
