Don't update unless you have to
After updating to 8.0.2 from 7.1.2 a couple of days ago, I played around with it. Looking for improvements on how I normally use my 5S. I didn't see much. But this is what I've found in my experience.
1. I don't really see that much improvement. Sure there are some new fancy apps that will ONLY run on iOS 8 (which is one of the reasons why I decided to update). But fancy, doesn't mean usable, or convenient.
2. Shortcuts is all messed up. Has to do with iOS 8 and iCloud. Keeps making my shortcuts disappear. A temp fix, and I mean temp, is to restart your phone, or sign out and back into iCloud. Again this is temp, because after a couple of hours, shortcuts disappear again.
3. Predictive keyboard isn't great. Just a slightly better version of autocorrect. Doesn't even "predict" all that well.
4. I think this is one of the key features many were looking forward to in 8.
The ability to use third party keyboards. You know, the finger slide feature of many Android phones. But what they don't tell you, is that to be able to use the full functions of these keyboards, you have to give them permission to track and save the data you type in. Which includes, among many things, usernames and passwords. You also have to agree that they can use that information how they see fit. REALLY?? Why would Apple ever allow that?? And who would be dumb enough to agree to it? So that scratched my looking forward to using Fleksy.
5. My battery runs hotter than usual than when I was running 7.1.2. Battery drains faster, especially when I'm online. Much faster than 7.1.2.
6. They got rid of Camera Roll. Now I have dig through Years (under Photos) to see my older pics. Apple has favoured the "more steps is best" mentality, over functionality. It's like a car company moving the spare tire from the trunk to a spot under the car, where you have to lift the car up, and then remove parts of the car, just to get to the spare tire. Then you have to have a special tool to remove it. Which only the car manufacturer makes. That's how much iOS 8 has become "inconvenient" for me.
So take away the bloatware, add all the issues with 8, and the "usable" features not being all that great (imo), it's just not worth upgrading.
I think the only people that are really benefitting from 8 are people with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Although 8 hasn't slowed down my 5S, the issues mentioned above, makes me regret updating. Considering most things were running fine under 7.1.2. Right now, in it's state, iOS 8 is a huge disappointment.

Tried to watch a video, it had one of those pre-roll ads we all love (/sarcasm), that play first. Except, after the ad ended, the screen just hung, half on one side, and the main video wouldn't start. Reloading started the ad video, rinse and repeat. Looked like a glitchy hot mess, if you ask me.

I've actually been noticing this with the phone itself. Hitting a key doesn't work the first, second or third time. But will kick in after a few tries. Sliding the through your folders has a lag too. Now I have to pause for a couple of seconds each time I scroll. Not all the time. But even a few times a day is too many. Especially when I wasn't have this issue under 7.1.2. And 7 had it's own quirks. But not as frustrating as 8.
"Apple...it just doesn't work". That's the new motto people are starting to use. And these are long time users of Apple products.

Hello all... I'm new hear , so I'm not sure if this has been covered.
Has anyone else had issues with Wifi connectivity with iOS8? My iPad mini w retina display will no longer connect through 5ghz and has intermittent connection problems through 2.4ghz. This started immediately following the upgrade. My wife's IPad Air with iOS 7 still connects on both without any problems.
Any word on a fix?
Thanks.
I was having slow wifi issues as well since the update. I hard rebooted my phone a couple of times, and it seems to have fixed the issue. Mind you this was only a couple of days ago. I'm prepping myself for it to come back. lol
