I'm just coming into the convo right now and don't have time to read through everyone's posts. Has anyone pointed out that there is a Beatles album cover in the cover flow image? At least, that's what it looks like to me. They totally have to announce that next week, even though I won't be buying it. In all honesty, I couldn't care less about the Beatles coming to iTunes, but I know that it will be great for iTunes and many people want it, so go ahead and bring it on.

I'm pretty sure that's the Beastie Boys artwork. There are no Beatles album art in that photo.

3.5" touch screen iPod will be welcome, but the fatty-nano looks quite ugly!
Its time apple added voice recorder to its iPod to make it really useful for students to record lectures.

BTSA in new iPods. Not Wi-Fi.

The new thing in car audio is SYNC. It will be first in Ford's then others. It supports Bluetooth Streaming Audio from MP3 players. Since no players have it now, you can bet it will be in the new iPods. (and the new Zune, since SYNC is written by MS). More details here: http://www.syncmyride.com/#/overlay/overlay_music_player.

This would also mean the new iPods run a version of Leopard, since BTSA requires AD2P support, and it's not in Tiger.

Bluetooth streaming audio will take less power than Wi-Fi and would also be an easy-add to iTunes for home use as well.

You heard it here first.

I'm pretty sure that the new iPod will have a 4" touchscreen.

Does anybody remember the rumor articles that were posted over a year and a half ago, detailing Apple's process in building a widescreen iPod? They were making it 3.5" and then they decided to go with 4".

Is there a snowball's chance that either:

1) The new iPod will play DIVX or AVI files like the Zen Vision M?

2) The new iPod will have Wifi WITH Safari and Mail (not just for downloading or sharing music)?

I would pay $$$$$$ for these two features on a touchscreen iPod.

1) I would assume a pretty certain NO
2) IF it has wifi, it will most likely be limited to zune esque sharing, or over the air digital downloads. But if it is osx based i dont see why it can't be hacked and programmed to have a browser.... so in conclusion, no haha

See.. i'm confused, because so many people are doubtful about the new iPod having Wi-Fi.

Do you realize what it would mean for Apple if the new iPod DIDN'T have Wi-Fi?

Would ANYBODY buy it over the iPhone? It's completely ludicrous to think that there will be no iPod model that has Wi-Fi.

I'm done.

guy, you are dillusional... An ipod is a media player... an iphone is a communication device with media capabilities.

IF IT HAS WIFI IT WILL BE LIMITED TO MEDIA ONLY USES AKA BUYING FROM ITUNES

Not lately they haven't. Many were dissapointed with the new iMacs. How many thousands of posts on here predicted all sorts of things from touch interface, touchpads, new breakthru design, etc? All we got was a silver finish and a skinny keyboard...

yeah maybe you e-nerds. the imac was recieved extremely well, gets outstanding reviews and sales quotes

Jobs won't ever ever let go of Apple... Until he is forced out. Which won't happen now that Apple is at the most profitable point in its history.

...although i doubt he'll step down now, you must have forgotten the 90's

Yep they do. What Michael Jackson owns is the rights to re-record those songs (cover-versions etc.). But the original songs are owned by the Beatles.

haha where did you get this information because thats not how publishing works in music

or... Streaming from your desktop iTunes library...

or.. (and this is a stretch) streaming over the internet back to your home computers iTunes library. So you could listen to your home library while you are at work, or Starbucks.

Apple's iPhone supports VPN. It could happen...

while i do agree streaming will be the ultimate future, it is way too costly to do a full bitrate stream... but i dont disagree with you

i'm just saying people expecting a safari surfing, email sending, all in one device are getting ahead of themselves. The ipod is a pmp not a umpc

Well at least we know it will happen (some of us, myself included, were a bit worried we were too close to the date) and will soon know how many of our prognostications were on and off the mark. :)

(D)oes nobody else think this would be the perfect time for Apple to announce european iPhone release dates, prices and network suppliers?

That will likely be at Paris Expo.

As of this moment I am using the internet as fiercely as possible, to find clever, tangentially-related images to use as "album art" for all this damned depressing independent Japanese ambient noise metal rock music clogging up my iTunes. No man must be left behind!

guys dont get ur hopes up with new macs this will be a apple ipod music event

so heres what i expect

full screen ipod video ala iphone look.
1gb red ipod shuffle report on engadget.
16 gig ipod nano
itunes music store on iphone another report from engadget

Thank you. Many people here are getting ahead of themselves and expect an iPod with safari and bluthooth this year. I'm not saying that I don't want such an iPod but I don't think we'll see one in the next 24 month.

I hope that the new iPod at least has WiFi so that we who'll be buying it can get Safari via a firmware upgrade in the future.

Apple doesn't care about AT&T at all. They're gonna release an iPod that'll make everyone buy it instead of the iPhone.. and screw AT&T over... MUA HA HA HA!

Even if Apple doesn't care about AT&T, I would expect them to care about not only current iPhone users, but future ones, as well. ;)

So if the iPod has a software-based functionality that isn't currently on the iPhone, it will be on the iPhone shortly after the end of the event (either pushed via EDGE or pulled via a 1.0.3 update).

Lol

Seriously speaking though the iPod touch won't cannibalize the iPhone to a lethal extent because you can't call with it. The ones who want a phone will buy the iPhone and the cheap ass fanboys who just want the cool touch screen experience will buy the iPod.
Since the iPhone and the iPod touch will be sharing components and screen it really won't matter which you you'll buy, Apple will profit either way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm.. Akamai announced their new HD content service the other day. Apple use Akamai for content distribution.

One wonders. Straight to Apple TV HD movie downloads would make it a much more exciting proposition.

Not that it has much to do with Sept. 5, but the HD market would be a wonderful growth market for Apple TV. While Blu-ray and HD-DVD are fighting out the format, and HD-DVD (which seems to be loosing, but it's still not over) is the only one under $500, Apple could be selling a $250 player that will not become obsolete and finally let all of us use our HD TVs.

In fact, not just Apple but the entire download market could use this opportunity to finally make downloads common in home theatres. A stupid format war could end us benifiting us all (well, except the HD electronics makers, but they can all go to...

There is no Beatles cover on the ad, it's Beastie Boys - The Mix Up
