this might be the first iPhone release that im seeing more detractors than people excited.
Also loving the number of people who are pre-emptively proclaiming they won't buy because the new design is ugly. I can't recall a time when I looked at a potential iPhone for purchase and made a decision based on the attractiveness of it. I believe somewhere in the list it goes:

1 - functionality
2 - price point for that functionality
3 - future-proofing and likelihood that X years from now I will still be happy with my purchase
4 - timing of trade-in and carrier deals to be had (actually, that's probably #1)

Any event that ends without a One More Thing introducing the Apple iPhone Fold a year earlier than anyone expects it is a complete fail. The fact that Apple appears to be still a year out on this product is sad as their competitors and other players in the international market have brought devices to market for quite some time now.

I still think the Pro's will actually have a 48MP telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom than can output 12MP photos (with 'optical like quality') at 8x zoom. Makes a lot more sense imo.

Those prices are officially insane and I don't think I'll ever buy a new iPhone at this rate. Buying used a year or 2 old and throwing in a battery is a great way to save $600+. I just purchased a used iPhone 15 PM for $550 USD and Lord knows there is literally zero difference between it and the 16 PM. And there is a pretty good chance there isn't really anything different about the 17 PM except for maybe better battery? I already have more battery life than I need. It's not a limiting factor for me anymore.

Anyone else just not really looking forward to this event?

Apple lately has been less "think different" and in that usual rut of "more of the same thing":
  • slightly faster processor
  • slightly better camera
  • slightly smaller bezel/ notch
  • slightly better screen

Remember when we thought $499 with 2-Year contract on AT&T was a ridiculous price for an iPhone? This is just insanity!! In no world should an iPhone cost as much or more than a MacBook Air (no, Apple this isn't a challenge to raise prices on the Macs). I guess it will be an iPhone 17, I would just do the iPhone 16e if it had magsafe. I only buy a new phone every 3-5 years, unfortunately its time...
I think Phones are a lot more capable these days. What I would like to see is a DeX like docking functionality where you can connect your phone to a mouse, keyboard, monitor and use it like a computer. That would better justify the price and give iPhone incredible value.

Agreed, but that would massively hurt the Mac Mini, so I don't see it happening.

I don't think people will like that price jump for the pro model, especially since last year was $999 and this year it $1199. If that happens, I won't be getting the 17 Pro. I usually get a new iPhone every year since the iPhone 11 was released, but with that price increase, I might keep my 16 Pro another year or two.
You’ve been replacing a perfectly good ~$1000 phone every year for the past 6 years, for only marginal changes in experience, and only now are questioning whether that is smart/sustainable because the price is going up $100-200?

yeah, for me I'm on a 16pro so really no need to upgrade and not seeing any rumored features that excite me.

$100 more makes no difference. You are grasping here…. You will still buy it.

You mean the same Tim who has made the company into a multi billion dollar one? - sure off you pop then Tim.

Mini phones? the same ones with such small demand that they stopped making them due to poor sales? - sure lets see that happen again.

So you want Tim gone and someone else to come in and release a product thats got a proven record of not being popular enough to bother making - seems like a great way to run a business.
