What is that feature?

I've been all in on Apple Maps for years now. It's been excellent at route planning and navigation, but it still lags behind Google when it comes to POIs (points of interest). I'm still hitting on too many occasions when I have to look for a restaurant or something on Google Maps and then use Apple Maps to navigate to it.

My other big wish list item is offline maps which can be super handy in areas of poor internet connectivity, or when travelling.

Still, I'm very impressed with the improvements to rendering and detail, and I use the Guides feature heavily to keep track of destinations of all kinds.
You don't use/need cell service. Just GPS. That's why I always get the Cellular/GPS iPad model. You can use it with maps that don't need cell service and just the GPS.

I generally like Apple Maps, but I really wish they would get HOV lanes built in to give accurate directions for carpoolers.

Probably the ability to just have a driving mode where you don't need to set a destination. It gives you all the info like speed of the road, traffic, accident reports, etc. as you drive along without having to bother to tell it where you are headed. I like doing that for traveling places I go all the time. I don't need the navigation telling me when to turn if it's just my daily commute. I just need to see if there's an accident up ahead, or some crazy traffic and I might want to take the back way. It's something I would love Apple Maps to add as its a feature I use all the time on other navigation apps.
I'd like that too. Sounds handy.

I would also really like to see a way to "pause" directions if you happen to just pull off of your route to grab gas or food without the phone telling you to "proceed to the route" endlessly.

And obviously, multi-stop directions. I don't know why that's so hard. You can insert a stop as you're on your way, but it's annoying to do and you're dependent on its search results -- and all of this is frankly dangerous in traffic unless you can enlist a passenger to do it or hit a stop light or whatever.

I agree. However they are behind on EV charging station locations. Google is doing a better job and showing the kWh available stalls etc

Also the process of providing correction and feedback sucks. They need more community driven meta data.

This is comedy gold.
Ha ha that is exactly what I was about to type !!!

I haven't used Apple Maps since I nearly missed my daughters graduation from University after it sent me to the wrong place. So of course they are working on 1) as Apple Maps is total garbage. That must be nearly 10 years ago now ? I'm never, ever going back to it

Apples stunning mistake was not to buy Waze. Whatever the asking price they should have bought it and used that as the basis for "their" mapping system

Am I the only one having the issue with Apple Maps in CarPlay where it doesn't say to turn when the turn is happening? It'll say a few blocks ahead that there's a turn, but then nothing after in some occasions. I have missed quite a few turns because I wasn't paying attention to the actual route on the screen.

I hope apple is putting its money in a worthwhile place. I really appreciate the privacy part. But I 2020 I really expect bike and public transport in Cologne, Germany, a 1 mil+ city. How else are we ever gonna convince people to ditch the car in the city I’d not with great apps that help us get around.

I would imagine the ability to share information along a route with others, like cop ahead or objects on the road or hazard conditions. Particularly the cop ahead lol it’s the only reason I use Waze, when I’m doing a long drive.
Yup, the cop notifications is the only reason I continue to use Waze. Add that (and people need to mark them) and I'll switch.

A roundabout was built down the road from me back in March of this year. Google Maps and Waze had their maps updated within 2 weeks. I submitted the change to Apple numerous times and as of today they still haven't updated the intersection. I want to like Apple Maps but they make it really hard.
My appartement address was located wrong in Google Maps and in several map apps except Apple Maps, the others updated my address and of my fellow apartment owners within weeks.

It took Google close to 2 years.

There's that....

I like Apple Maps, but there is a couple of things that need to be done to make it better.
  • Ability to import List from Google maps
  • Add notes to places in "My Guides" *I hate adding a place and I forgetting why I added. This happens mostly with restaurants I see in a TV show
  • Add people to "My Guides" to collaborate *This would really help with family trips

I use it exclusively. I wish the POIs where more feature rich and standalone instead of redirecting to Yelp. Also wish the navigation was improved. The reporting system is abysmal.

For me, the UI and spoken instructions on Apple maps whilst driving is amazing. The issue is that it’s still not as up to date as the others and that is where we all need to get involved to try and improve it.

That said, Waze is my go to because the routes are better.
