Can't wait for the coming 12 Pro Max teardown that will reveal the only reason Apple limited the top-tier optics to that model and not the standard Pro was purely margins, a practice I thought Apple finally abandoned with the XS and 11 Pro Max.

Wouldn't that rely on the hearing aid manufacturers? I mean what Apple can do, other than actually make their own hearing aid device?
Apple can do what they did with exercise equipment manufacturers: form an alliance and create a new standard (GymKit) that would allow those devices to seamlessly communicate with theirs. Furthermore they could keep the licensing fees to a minimum instead of using it as yet one more way to juice their margins, as such a feature would primarily benefit the disabled and elderly.

People says a lot about computational photography, but seems like Apple's method of computational photography is linked to the Ax chip's ISP. So whatever computational photography feature on a new iPhone won't be available on previous iPhones. Eg. the portrait lighting not available on the iPhone 7 Plus.

But Apple loves juicy margins. :D

This review will make you feel better about going with the smaller Pro. Much like the reviewer, I was hoping that the new sensor would be a noticeable upgrade over the sensor in the smaller Pro but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I still pre-ordered the Max just because of the display size but I’m feeling a little underwhelmed by the camera review.
Probably my favourite video reviewer. As expected, DSLRs can rest easy for another year. Surprise bonus: phablet-averse people don’t need to feel like they’re missing out on game-changing camera features by choosing the smaller Pro model. (This comes as a bit of a surprise given what many saw as Brownlee subtly hinting that photography people should skip the 12 Pro and wait for the Max in his review of the former. Almost canceled my Pro order based on that insinuation! 🥴)

What I’d like to see Apple focused on in photography (pun intended) is ergonomics. The slab is about the worst ergonomic way of taking photos. Yes, some cases can mitigate some of it but it needs to start with Apple. Especially if they are pivoting to a camera-first smartphone as a differentiator seeing as the market is well into maturity.
I think what you’re after is an Apple Camera, not a phone.

He usually does great content but not this time, he never tested the camera in very low light. Just look at the picture of this dog, difference between the two pros is massive.

If they didn’t need the bigger sensor, and could achieve what they wanted via software instead, then they didn’t need to give the Pro Max a bigger sensor. 🤷🏻‍♂️

His answer was so condescending.

Miserable answer for why only the Pro Max got the best camera. I just can't live with the size of the Max, but want the best camera possible. I personally think the Pro line should all have the "Pro" features.
Physics dictate that better cameras have to be physically bigger. There's no way around that. And it's why DLSRs will always be better than iPhone cameras.

The key to all this is the software. Anyone who's had a decent play with Lightroom/Photoshop or similar knows how much time it takes to turn a well framed snap into a thing of beauty (pros will spend somewhere in the order of an hour on each shot in post processing). The camera software in these phones is the absolute key to doing 90% of that work for you automatically so that you don't have to bother, and produce wonderful shots instantly just with a point and shoot. It's quite extraordinary.

I'm super pleased with my 12 Pro. The Pro Max was a non-starter for me not being able to put it in my shirt pocket. As I've been shooting exclusively with a phone for the past five years, that was critical. And not being to being able to navigate the screen easily with one hand sealed it as a deal killer..

The camera on the Pro is superb. Here's a recent photo:

The regular iPhone isn’t a one handed device for a lot of people as it is. I don’t know anyone that can pull the Control Center down one handed. The only phone that is one-handed now is the mini and it has terrible battery life because of its size.

It doesn't need to be one-handed for ALL operations. Being able to use it one-handed for 95%+ for operations I most often use is huge for me.

I hope they can get the flaring under control in future models. Whether through better coatings or software or some combination of both.

now my 15-year-old daughter can create full Dolby Vision HDR video
Dear Jon, Welcome to 2020. I will not give an iPhone 12 to my 15yo daughter this year.

Dear daughter, That iPhone 8 you got handed down from Mom last year still works perfectly fine. You do remember last year do you? Last year as in the year the world wasn't bleeding.

Dear Mrs. Santa, If you have any plans to override this decision, I will quarantine your credit cards. Heck I'd be surprised if those cards were actually still working.

Love,
Dad

Better Battery, thicker , yes thicker NOT thinner design - easier to hold imo

Then they can improve the cameras too , if they need to , seem pretty impressive tbh

Get rid of the notch too please , look at the ipad pro as a design example

Does Apple design their own cameras? I thought all manufacturers buy them ready made from a dedicate camera manufacturer like Sony or Nikon maybe and just install them in their phones/devices?

I will wait for the Better sensor of the 12 Pro Max to be inside a smaller 13Pro. If its not made i will wait for the 14Pro.
The problem with the Max is that it is too Big for my pocket and it is easy to loose, I really don't want to buy a Phone Holster for my belt! The 11Pro is Super Excellent until they get the Pro Max Sensor in a smaller body.
