Apple has expanded a previously U.S. exclusive Apple TV gift card offer to more countries worldwide, offering customers a gift card alongside the purchase of an Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD.

The original offer was launched for U.S. customers last month, giving buyers a $50 gift card with the purchase of an Apple TV.

Following the Apple Store going down in several countries, Apple has expanded the offer to more locations, including the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, and others. The promotion will run until August 15, including in the U.S.

The gift card offered in the promotion can only be used for future Apple purchases and can't be used on the Apple TV purchase itself. Rumors suggest Apple is working on a new Apple TV that could launch this year, and the gift card promotion could be a means of clearing inventory ahead of the new model.

Why can’t Apple just reduce the price on older products instead of this voucher scheme? The 4K box is starting to creak now, and I suspect the HD box is even worse? This forced “price point” that they need to keep is ridiculous, people understand that older products get cheaper and newer ones cost more

They are the Louis Vuitton of electronics. They would rather discontinue and throw out products, then reducing the price. Just look at how much Apple is still charging for the AirPod Pro, released in 2019. In fact, they have increased them by 10 Euro since. o_O

What I’ve found is that other retailers are selling them for much cheaper online. In the UK, Amazon and other retailers have them for around £180.

Put a decent chip inside and enter the console space, We already have controller support so they really could push Apple Arcade a lot further and make it worth wild.
More performance would be nice, but not if it raises the price any. Most people who are buying it now are buying it as a very nice streaming box that's already at the high end of the price spectrum. If they made it substantially more powerful and the price went up, those who only wanted a streaming box (again, the majority of the intended audience at this point) would be even more likely to look elsewhere, while the market for an Apple gaming console is hypothetical at best, and faces a lot of long standing problems - Apple has had a habit of starting to court the big game developers, every so often, and then just as quickly wandering away. It would take quite an effort on Apple's part (much more than just releasing nice hardware) to convince the developers that Apple was really serious this time and was going to stick with it.

Now, they could elect to keep the existing streaming console as-is (perhaps with minor upgrades), and also release a new product that's much more gaming console-like, but that doesn't sound like what you're suggesting.

PS Did you mean "worthwhile"?

If the Apple TV were to compete with consoles, just a new chip won't cut it. They need to put serious storage in there because console games are huge. This would increase the price. But since Apple doesn't understand the games business, they should not do this. Lower the price of the existing models and you are fine.

Apple could put the M1 Ultra in there and still not compete with the consoles. Apple needs games. Games are what sells consoles and Apple just can't get the publishers to deliver top tier games for them. Just like entering the video streaming space, this is going to take a lot of cash to pull off and Apple could easily do it if they wanted, but so far nothing...

Don’t understand the games business ?

Look at iPad and iPhone gaming , if they applied just a smidgen of the effort they put into iOS gaming they’d have the new switch
If you want a console full of free to play and throwaway titles, then yes, they understand it.

Console gaming is much different from iPhone and iPad gaming which is targeted to casuals. For a console to work you need the bigger developers working in their big titles, and Apple hasn’t shown they understand or even want to enter that market.

I’d agree except I’ve got a ps5 and an iPad Pro ,I spend a lot more time and money playing games on my iPad than I do the Sony

Too much tbh 😂

Really? What are you playing? I even have Apple Arcade as part of Apple One (the service I do use make it work it) but rarely have found anything on iPhone that I play for long than 15 min. And right now I have no games installed on it.

Amen! Nintendo has a much less powerful console but does great because they have games! I don't know any semi-serious gamer that doesn't own Mario Kart 8 on the Switch.

Where do you see that option? I just went and had a look at the ATV page on their website and didn't see an offer?
Right at the top of the home page on the App Store app… and on a desktop, click on Apple TV and it's at the top too

I'd still rather they cut $70 off the $229 price.
