Apple today said that hypertension notifications are now available for Apple Watch and iPhone users in Australia, Malaysia, Colombia, Indonesia, South Korea, Brazil, and Turkey.

Introduced last September, the hypertension detection feature uses the health sensors on the Apple Watch and custom-designed algorithms to determine if a user seems to be regularly experiencing high blood pressure. If hypertension is detected over a 30-day period, the Apple Watch is able to send an alert suggesting that the user opt in to more frequent blood pressure monitoring with the guidance of a doctor.

According to Apple, hypertension is the leading modifiable risk factor for heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease, impacting 1.4 billion adults globally. Hypertension does not have visible symptoms in most cases, so it can go undiagnosed.

Apple Watch owners in the countries where Apple has added support can set up hypertension alerts in the Health app.

Hypertension alerts are available with the Apple Watch Series 9 and later and the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later.

It doesn't even work. Never detected my high bp

And vice versa, it sometimes warns me of hypertension, but then I measure pressure regularly using professional blood pressure meter and nothing bad is going on. It's not actually measuring blood pressure, but estimating it from other sensor using a mode, so there will be a fairly large number of false positives or negatives. So, I've just disabled this feature.

Also, don’t feed that **** into ChatGPT: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/tech...atch-data-then-i-called-my-doctor/ar-AA1UZxip

I see a few people noting that it doesn't work. My understanding is that it describes itself as a series of algorithmic trends that align with hypertension and are meant to be a warning to check your blood pressure because you may be in hypertension (not necessarily as distinct confirmation).

I've been getting these warning the last few months and my BP usually sits as elevated, but I eventually had a BP issue where it shot up 30 points out of nowhere putting me in the middle of Stage 2 Hypertension a week ago.

Glad it worked for you as well. Mine notified me of possible hypertension....and sure enough my doctor confirmed it. Now I'm on the Mediterranean Diet for the next few months. It's better than not knowing at all. It will get better as time and more data makes it better.

I smell an EU fine coming
Where is a reference to Europe in this article?? Definitely not in the list of countries. It’s Australia, not Austria. Turkey is not in the EU. When I dictated the 1st sentence of the article followed by your comment into my AW, it send me a hyper EU-bashing detection alert.

Apple, please revise your product pricing in Malaysia. The Ringgit has strengthened to 3.90, compared to the previous rate of 4.80.

I don’t have an Apple Watch, I really like my current solar powered traditional watch which is ten years old and never needed batteries or any servicing.

But if anything gets me to buy an Apple Watch it will be health monitoring, I just don’t think they are there yet and won’t be for a while.

Never worked for me. I have stage 2 hypertension and had ios/watchos26 installed for months and nothing ever happened. Just starting meds to bring it down today.

My watch saved me. One night my watch woke me up. Said i had afib. Went to the ER which confirmed the warning.
Since these conditions are sometimes temporary, folks should not assume that it is incorrect. If it gets you to see a medical professional, it can save your life. And as I recall, the feature must be enabled
