If Apple/Globalstar launches any additional satellites it looks like they will end up using SpaceX (which means Elons pockets get lined).

How so? Apple just committed 1.5B to Globalstar. 1.1B of that is for the purchase of new satellites, 229M is to pay down debt, and they're taking a 20% stake.

He likely meant using SpaceX for launching, since it is dominating not only the satellite market, but also the launch one.

But we can’t have that (use SpaceX) in any way, because apparently Elon bad, we should rather go with the Russians or the Chinese, right? Make it make sense…

As @CyclingHermit stated. They have to get those satellites into space. Maaaaaaybe Blue Origin can do it, but SpaceX is the safer bet outside of going to Russia (which Globalstar did before) or China.

As others have said I guess and hope that the SOS function remains free forever. I think it's a great feature to offer, and just from a publicity standpoint I am not sure if it is smart to profit off a SOS service. People will get upset about it, and while I am a capitalist, in that very case I would even side with them. No one should have to pay for emergency services.

Just imagine the ********* after the first headline of a casualty that could've been prevented but they didn't subscribe. Sad for the human, bad PR for Apple.

Tell that to Garmin that no one should have to pay for emergency services. I could be incorrect, but I don't think Garmins' esat is free. So if no one should have to pay for emergency services, garmin should offer theirs for no-cost as well. As should all esat providers.

Image the ********* that would happen if the headline is: "Iphone user casuality due to run down battery". Clearly that would be on apple. Right? The poor soul would have no culpability. /s
