I think we are seeing a difference. The difference in features taking longer and now possibly features never coming to the EU.
The statues quo is still years for functions to come across the pond. Want to guess some features that. Or never getting here 🤷‍♂️

It’s not.
macOS is not a core platform service covered by the DMA.

Next on the EU chopping block is Airdrop. They are trying to destroy everything
If anyone is destroying things, it’s Apple removing it.
Cross-platform data transfer is beneficial to consumers.

And I can’t believe how many people are advocating against functionality or legislation that benefits consumers.

Good, nothing should make it to the EU from now on.
The decision is Apple’s.
Their Android competitors won’t only not care - they take the opportunity to grab the market from Apple.

I'm from the EU, I'm an e-scooter rider and I very much agree with the speed limit and many more traffic regulations that make living in the city safer for everyone.
People from certain countries seem to be in love with the freedom to hurt themselves, be hurt, or ending up killed, or eating low quality foods or risk bankruptcy if they get sick.

Or, the rider could be adult enough to know when to ride speed appropriate. EU doesn’t like to allow individual choices on such matters? Did 40kmh on mine earlier today and zero issues with traffic, pedestrians, etc - shrugs -

This works less than half the time for me so the EU isn't really missing much. Maybe by the time they get it working reliably, it'll be available in the EU.
This!

I’ve tried using iPhone mirroring as a developer, it’s been ok to be fair but I just don’t get the need for it. The iPhone is in front of me. Why use up screen real estate on my mac when I’ve got the same space on my iPhone.

Shucks, as an EU user, this was one of the things I was most looking forward to when this was released. I hope EU bureaucrats gets their heads out of their butts eventually.

We did not want a couple of geronts to tell us what tech should we use and what not. EU was about a shared economic and diplomatic.

The average age of a member of the EU parliament is 50, so it’s really not that old.

There should not be patents that allow Apple to dominate forever. Just like in pharmaceutical company patents, they should only last seven years

Patents in the EU can at most last 20 years.

dozens of eu users are using it in the EU. Not sure what this article is all about?

Applaud the EU's diligence, but think their arguments are a bit one-sided sometimes, consider this, I asked Google are Mercedes Cars using the same nuts and bolts as American manufactured cars and this is wha it said –
No, the bolt threads on Mercedes vehicles are not the same as those on most American-made cars. Mercedes-Benz primarily uses metric threads (like M12 and M14), while some older American cars might use standard (SAE) threads, although most modern US-made vehicles also use metric.

Don need to get on this one ASAP

Forget this iPhone Mirroring lark. I'm looking forward to the big one ... the EU requiring Apple to open up MacOS, iOS and all the others to third party hardware makers. Think of it, all the convenience of Apple software but with a choice of decent hardware (computers, phones, watches, you name it!), instead of Apple's take-it-or-leave-it non-choice of hardware. Just like Android users have had since the dawn of time, but with the better Apple interfaces.

Not being able to have phone mirroring is exactly like how the EU limits electric scooters to 15mph (25kmh).

Erm no. You can either sell it as a "toy" limiting it's speed to toy level, or as a vehicle which obviously brings on stuff like restrictions on where you can drive, having a drivers license and insurance.

Big buhu...

As for the topic, yes tech should work without artificial limitations and closed APIs. Wether I pair my iPhone with macos, Windows or HAIKU should be my decision and my decision alone.

I am just glad I can simply choose US as my region in settings and use every feature I paid for

this really is disappointing, I check almost weekly when the iPhone mirroring feature will be available. I travel a lot outside the EU and I nearly exclusively use the feature.

I broadly agree with a lot of the EU regulation on digital privacy and anticompetitive behavior - but really it's been over a year and we still don't have many of the AI features that other markets do.

it's a giant game of chicken between apple and the regulators

Lol. You people wanted this. You wanted Mommy EU to hold your hand in the world of tech. You wanted regulation after regulation, invented fine after invented fine for Apple.

You're getting everything you wanted. Except for perhaps any new features for iPhone that is 🤣

Then Apple will lose customers as competitors bring new features and stick the laws of the land.

iPhone Mirroring is extremely niche in my opinion. My hunch is that they created it for the VR headset, where it makes a lot more sense, and just reused the technology on Mac because it's a cool tech demo.

It would be very funny if someone created an app for macOS to control Android phones similar to iPhone Mirroring before Apple releases their feature worldwide.

I am so confused with Apple’s “argument” or better yet the lack of. Mostly because:
1. Windows have been offering screen mirroring for android devices for ages now.
2. MacOS is nowhere near the market share needed to be considered a dominant OS.
3. Apple already offers, in the EU, shared clipboard, airplay, access to the messages, passing phone calls to Macs, etc. So far, the EC never hinted at having any issues with Apple offering these iOS-MacOS connectivity exclusive features.

The Apple/Google duopoly is under intense scrutiny in all developed economies for anticompetitive behavior, even in the US. The DMA is quite benign actually when you look at the facts.

I'm convinced, that the major blow to Apples and Googles App Store business model will actually come from court rulings in the US. It will just take more time, but the outcome will be much more drastic.

WHAT !. Will the EU make ford spares fit fiat cars ?
stupid situation.
it is one feature I really want to work.
