I've got news for you... Apple is indeed making their own displays and batteries. The displays have been in development for many years and are microLED iirc (not mini); rumoured to possibly debut in the Apple Watch X this/next year. For the battery, it's unclear how long Apple's been working on that.

I think the only way around the modem patents is if Apple uses a fundamentally different tech, like optical computing hardware. QC seems to think their patent coverage is air-tight.
Going around patents is not the root cause; they would still save money if they had their own silicon and paid royalty.

Trust me Apple fans demand Apple to literally make everything inhouse, from components as small as a diode. They call it “device security”. All must be made in US as well.
Yawn. Ye olde ‘Apple Sheeple’ post…
As an longtime Apple user all I care for is good devices. I don’t care one bit who makes the components. Apple innovated with Apple Silicon and proved the way forward for RISC computing. I applaud them for it. I guess they hope(d) to do something similar with the modem tech, but they (so far) failed. Not so good for my shares, but as a consumer…🤷🏻

What Apple has discovered, because they didn't listen, is that cellular modems are hard.

You can't get around Virterbi and the company he built.. Qualcomm. If you are building a multipath radio of any form; cellular or WiFi you are going to pay Qualcomm and Nokia.

It just is. There is absolutely no way around those algorithms and people have been trying for decades.

Yes, indeedy, some people are apparently obsessed with Apple. They should look in the mirror. Or hang around a place called MacRumors. /s

The "modem chip" brouhaha here is just another opportunity to take a swing at Apple in order to feel better for the rest of the day. Pretty funny as I suspect many here really aren't familiar with cellular communication standards/protocals or modem technology in general.

Apple can move mountains. Apple can make their own Modem in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024..... and counting.

Casually reminding everyone. While the vast majority of comments now are somewhat pro Qualcomm. For nearly 5 years the Macrumors comments were about Apple can develop the best CPU, they can do it with Modem BS.

Even the current comments are still plan wrong about Patents. ( Avoiding Patents? What? ) And Apple manufacturing their own MicroLED?

They probably shouldn't have bought Intel's modem, but then again, there needed to be a basis and that keeps some IPs from being used, I think it's just the hiccups of fixing Intel's code and then build upon it, which takes time. I say to upgrade the limited satellite communications they have now, forget 5G and use 6G. Shooting for Sept 2027

With there extension with Qualcomm, I think they may wait till 6G to fully ditch Qualcomm and I know Apple can’t wait to do that. We will see if there custom 5G modem in the iPhone SE 4 will be any good. Only time will tell. If it works they will save some good money on modem fees but will still have to pay Qualcomm royalty patent fees even with Qualcomm not doing everything modem wise for Apple.

I’m thinking Tim Cook has something special up his sleaves and will save money somehow some where on modem fees.

High speed Satellite 🛰️ Internet 🛜 is possible with of Starlink. Apple should team up with Starlink to provide a high speed internet option via satellite 🛰️ for phones and ditch the very complex 5G modem project

Steve Jobs initially wanted his iPhone 📱 to have WiFi only as he felt the cellular data companies were too spotty
