Have you ever thought about it though… what use would that actually be? Even on an iPad mini size screen, with no keyboard (or a digital keyboard occupying half of the screen) - what work or fun could you actually do on it?
Wake me up when the iPad mini can fold, gets x4 speakers, OLED and ProMotion.

I have been an OG fan of the mini but with the jelly scroll that ended.

I won't be buying one, but I'm very much interested in seeing what Apple contributes to the foldables space.
iPhone 17 Air is in this direction. They would experiment the thin mobiles, make it foldable later. They have all other things in place, thanks to the competitors in the market for almost 7-8 Years. The supply chain would have been eased by the time Apple enters the market and they can get everything cheaper by not rushing to be the first.

of course its gonna happen
apple basically exhausted mainstream market and its looking for more and more specialized devices for (vision, watch ultra) for a little bit of growth apperance. same way you know they're going for touch macs.
"Growth appearance" meaning it's not really growth?

I just question if Apple can pull off the same hardware quality Samsung has after making 7 generations of foldables.

I went from the Galaxy Z Fold 6 to a ZF7, and I can tell you the leap wasn't minor. The phone went from feeling like a remote control to a regular slab phone.

Apple software is better in many ways than Android, but if Apple can't release foldable hardware that matches the current standard, I'll not make a $2.5k step backward.

Rather than save space FACE ID is more practical and secure. Has to be a way to do it
After close to a decade from initial introduction, Apple is struggling to get FaceID smaller and thinner. So the solution is follow on iPhone Air’s direction and just remove it. Put TouchID then later release FaceID as re-innovation by recycling.

I have an iPad. I have an iPhone. I can get through the day starting with a fully charged phone and pad. I end with both devices under 20%. Were I to get a foldable phone, I would expect it to replace the phone and pad, especially given that its price would be comparable to buy both a phone and a pad.

The question: Will I get through the day using this one device as both phone and pad without having to hook it to power by late afternoon?

Sounds way too inexpensive for Apple. It should be a significant step up over non-folding iPhones, which can go to $2,000. So it should start at $3,000 and go to $3,999. Made in smaller quantities, it would be a status symbol and sell out immediately.

Only if the folded or “book” form factor is as thin as the current M4 iPad pros. I am cautious about Apple producing something as thin as that, but time will tell

Competitors have demonstrated it can be done, if Apple is unable to pull it off then it says a lot.

Good to hear about this. Will be nice if the foldables are made in India from day one. With the $1199 Pro Max already costing equivalent to around $1700 in local currency due to high import duty, the $1999 foldable will end up being around $2800 for the local market. At that pricing, I would definitely not buy it and have to choose the Samsung foldable.
