iLounge notes that Apple has filed a countersuit in federal court and a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) against Kodak over alleged infringement of patents related to image processing, power management, and memory architectures in its still and video camera products.

Kodak filed suits against Apple and Research in Motion back in January, claiming infringement of its patents related to digital camera technology by the iPhone and camera-enabled BlackBerry devices. The ITC agreed in February to hear Kodak's complaint, but has not yet rendered a decision.

Apple's move is likely an effort to increase the strength of its position during negotiations with Kodak over the patent issues and to encourage a settlement of all claims.

kodak /apple

it is to bad that two famous american technology companies/brands could not have worked together!

Eastman Kodak people, INVENTED the digital camera. And yes do have many Patents that Apple has closed their eye and reached into the cookie jar
and placed so quietly into thier equipment. Don't think for a second that the people in the 'know' at Apple don't indeed 'know'.

RIM of Canada has done the same here. With RIM & Apple being in such a massive
worldwide eadership position, and Kodak really owning the rights to a lot of the guts of these products they sell....
it makes total & complete sence for Kodak to be asking for a fair settlement to it.

Have you seen the new Kodak M580, Playsport hd Vid, ESP Pigment Based Printers, and Pulse email digital Frame?

They are starting to become much more savy and fast at that, to compete directly with the likes of little companies such as Canon, Epson, Sony & HP.

Given that some patents are so vague, it really is possible to infringe without knowing it. Apple may have kept something in the vault after it cancelled its production contract with Kodak on the QuickTake cameras. Interestingly enough you don't patent trolls (cept maybe Apple) going after handheld and camera companies for infringing on computers. OS, storage(flash memory), motherboards, displays and keypads (input devices). Miniaturize a computer and marry it to camera. Miniaturize a digital camera and marry to an iPod. Who's infringing?

Double standards at their finest...

I see those patent trolls from Apple are at it again.

Did you even read the title? "Apples Files COUNTERsuit Against Kodak Over Alleged Patent Infringement."

If you read the title and still want to say that "patent trolls from Apple are at it again," then you can join my list of hypocrites who turn a blind eye to every other company when they protect business interests but cry foul when Apple does it.

As I said, it's a COUNTERsuit against Kodak. Kodak filed suit against Apple first saying Apple violated its patents. Apple countersued saying Kodak violated some of its (Apple) patents.

Bottom line is Kodak started it first.
