Apple has filed a court motion to dismiss Elon Musk's lawsuit alleging the company conspired with OpenAI to stifle competition in the AI market, arguing the antitrust claims are based on "speculation on top of speculation."

In a Texas filing Tuesday, Apple's lawyers defended the company's decision to integrate ChatGPT into iOS, claiming it did nothing wrong in selecting OpenAI as its initial generative AI partner. The filing says it is "widely known that Apple intends to partner with other generative AI chatbots" beyond OpenAI in the future.

The motion likely refers to reports that Apple is working to integrate other chatbots like Gemini into ‌Siri. Indeed, Google CEO Sundar Pichai earlier this year commented about talks with Apple on this very subject.

Apple argued that xAI's lawsuit essentially demands the company partner with "every other generative AI chatbot – regardless of quality, privacy or safety considerations, technical feasibility, stage of development, or commercial terms." Apple's lawyers noted that antitrust laws do not require such an approach.

Musk's xAI and X (Twitter) sued Apple and OpenAI in August, seeking billions in damages over claims that Apple's partnership with OpenAI stifled AI industry innovation and limited consumer choice. The lawsuit specifically cited X and Grok's absence from the App Store's "Must Have" section and ChatGPT's exclusive integration with Siri.

The case continues.

Ohh. So Elon musk feels that no one is going to use his AI now? But I mean, with his wealth, if anything, he is one of the few that can initiate legal challenge to Apple personally.

Yeah, usually he's beating his chest about how much better Grok supposedly is than sliced bread, and then he files a lawsuit against Apple alleging, in effect, that Grok's success is limited by whether Apple allows it to be embedded in the Apple ecosystem.

Musk is such a spaz. I was never a fan of any of his offerings. I don’t use X, had no interest in a Tesla (electric cars just aren’t my thing. Just not for me. If you like them that’s fine) I don’t use Starlink for anything.

I do have to admit that I’m intrigued by what Space X has been doing. They have reached some technical milestones that are impressive and I applaud them.

But Musk’s behavior is just odd. Why would Apple be obligated to include your AI in iOS? Did you have a contract they violated? Is it sour grapes? I’ve never used Grok. I primarily use GPT and sometimes I use Gemini when I search Google. I actually subscribe to GPT as I use it so much. And I do find it pretty useful for a lot of different things. Alas, it IS wrong a lot and you always need to double check what it tells you.

Musk’s temper tantrums make me less inclined to even try Grok. Someone would have to convince me it’s vastly superior before I gave it a try.

Someone up thread pointed out Siri needs some sort of help. Siri is just SO terrible and SO useless I cringe every time my spouse says “Hey Siri” as I know the results will be terrible.

I think he believes that free speech means you must platform him, and his companies, whereas free speech means you don't have to platform someone. He's upset that another AI is more popular, and probably better (I haven't used grok, it sounds too much like grot which is dirt/grime).

Grok is a term/concept for knowing/understanding something (to grok its essence in fullness) described in Robert Heinlein’s science fiction book, “Stranger in a Strange Land”. It isn’t even a real word per se. Does show the wide reach of this work that so many people (especially in tech) know and use this term.

It’s about allowing all users to install anything they want on their iPhones they paid for with their own money. It doesn’t matter if it’s Elon or the next big thing. I want to install whatever I want on products I own. It’s wrong that Apple hasn’t allowed users to install whatever they want.

You can install his App right now:

You would t try something based on its name or based on who’s part owner of it? So many people get uppity about people they don’t agree with but this is not what it’s about - the media has created this chaos.

Yeah. I have a subscription to it. My point is if ChatGPT is integrated we should be able to select and allow us to use any we want. In my use cases, Claude is what I would use within the OS.

Absolutely, and that's been the case since I started paying attention to such things in high school, in the mid to late 90's.

It's illogical that the AI that is winning is being purposely suppressed. Musk is correct. Grok will prevail, with or without Apple.

If it will prevail, with or without Apple, then Musk should end this stupid lawsuit and move on with his life. We're not Vulcans, so logic doesn't really apply or matter.

How exactly is it winning? Most people I associate with have never even heard of Grok, but they have definitely heard of ChatGPT, and often use it.

Winning =/= the best at what it does. Winning = mindshare and trust, which Musk definitely doesn't have. The creepy anime "girlfriend" thing, for example, makes me want to recoil or vomit...I don't know which...plus Grok is trained on x.com posts...so, well..enough said.
