I haven’t been following the news lately, but last year there were some talks about a 15” or 16” MacBook Air (again… i know… ?)

Was there any update on that? Is there a marginal hope that we will get a big screen MacBook under 2000$?

Intel released new CPUs every year too, but Apple didn't follow.
Shhh.. quiet, people don't like it when you blame it on Apple....
I totally agree with you, while Intel iteration where low speed bump, Intel still released lots of new CPU... Apple never used some of them and blamed Intel for lack of updates.

i dont think we will se m1 pro/max mac mini actually. think about it - a mini desktop more powerfull than their own iMac?

Yeah. I am quietly dreading that the new MacBook Airs are going to have white bezels for all models. I know it's been rumoured, but no thanks. That will probably tip me over to a MacBook Pro. I really want the portability and battery life of the Air, but super keen on the 120hz Mini LED display on the Pro's. Air vs. 14" Pro. Hrmmm. Decisions!
Completely agree. I find it rather odd that Apple had iconic iMac designs all these years (admired across industry) and suddenly decided to throw it all away.

Even stands on new iMacs look very crude. I mean that elegant iMac stand dates back to 2006 and was there until the new iteration of iMacs:

It was also very recognisable which is good for marketing, branding and IP.

And while 2006 model had white bezels, it was all white. And it was plastic. White aluminium with different colours on the front of display is just distracting.

New iMac models look like they were brought together by different corporate departments which don't really communicate with each other.

I mean the whole design philosophy of Apple is simplicity. Johny Ive famously described how they managed to make the whole front "just display" in the 2009 iMac reveal video:

My guess is it is the lower end 14" MacBook Pro + 2 models of Mac mini....if the MacBook Pro is coming now, it suspect it may still retain the M1...seems odd to debut an M2 in that machine and not the redesigned MacBook Air.

Wouldn't it be weird to launch the M2 with only one laptop SKU?

Maybe it's a version of the current M1 Macbook Air with the combined magsafe + charging via USB-C as the Macbook Pro?

I'm thinking a new 14" base model MacBook Pro with M2 and two new Mac mini models. Pretty keen on an M2 MacBook Air though!
Agree -Since MacBook Air and Mac mini were the first to go M1, it would most likely that they are also the first to get M2 chips. They’ll most likely also see new designs.

However, it could also be a new MacBook Pro instead of MacBook Air as the 13” MBP also hasn’t seen an upgrade since M1. Well, unless you’re counting the 14” MacBook Pro as it’s replacement. Who knows.

I think it’s going to be an M2 Mac mini. It’s only going to be M1 Pro/Max if Apple launches the mini as a mini Pro and then it’ll be significantly more expensive than any previous Mac mini.

But I doubt it as this sort of breaks Apple’s previous formula of having the mini and Air be entry level models.

Is there a reason for Apple to release M1 Mini/iMac/Mac Pro's before they can release the M2? Why not kick off 2022 with the first M2 computers? Wouldn't surprise me if they did.

I'm placing my bet on an entry MBP 13" replacement, a Mac mini replacement, and a new Mac mini Pro as the 3 skus. Not sure they will all be next month though.

Most likely. Apple would be releasing new processors each year, just like they do with the iPhone. Sometimes, there will be some small improvements, but other times we can see more substantial redesign of the silicon with improved architecture. Previously, Apple had to rely on Intel which conditioned when new Macs could be released. Now Apple could decide its own refresh cycles. I suspect that M2 will be 10% more powerful than M1 in CPU and 20% in GPU performance. In any case, it would be strange to see MBA with M2, and then iMac with M1 Pro/Max in the same release.

Another alternatives is that we see iMac and MacMini with M1/Pro and a new Mac Pro with 2 and 4 CPU M1 Max configurations, and then push the M2 chips for later in 2022, when all Macs are duly upgraded to first gen Apple silicon. This makes most sense. MBA with M1 does not need refresh currently while these other Macs need it more urgently as they are running on Intel.
All of this talk about a M2 MacBook Air..why? I really don’t understand why the MacBook Air needs a M2. Even the current M1 would be over kill. Doesn’t the entry MacBook Pro cover any need over the current MacBook Air? The current entry MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar is probably the next upgraded Mac, but I don’t understand all of the hype about an updated MacBook Air and a refresh or design.

I think the Max and Pro should have been badged as the M2 instead of M1. Now it’s going to seem strange if the MacBook Air has M2 while the MacBook Pro has M1. With or without the Max or Pro, M2 could still be mistaken for a more powerful chip even without the Pro and Max badges. 2 is always better than 1.

I find it odd that they would update the M1 MacBook Pro but not the Air at the same time, and even weirder that they would already release M2 when they haven’t finished their silicon transition. Maybe it’s a new model bridging the price gap between the 13’ MBP and 14’ MBP? I don’t think we will get those 3 filings products in the same event.

I am hoping for a redesign MBA M2. I am holding off getting one until next month to replace my 2019 MBP. I am tired of the fan noise at this point and don’t want to spend too much money.
