500,000 sq ft of indoor space, rural Oregon... Obviously the perfect conditions to build a time machine, prevent Steve Jobs' death, and make sure Android never sees the light of day.

Not really no. Ever been to Oregon? That part of the state doesn't get a lot of regular sun.

In fact, this location makes no sense to me whatsoever. Connectivity out there is going to be expensive, not near a big exchange, the nearest city is really Eugene and that's not very convenient, none of the hydro-power assets that are closer to Portland or any town that lines the Colombia. Am I missing something?

Eastern Oregon gets a ton of sun actually. And depending on which power company Apple decides to go with, it could have quite a bit hydro-power in it. I'm betting Apple builds a big solar farm though. :)

I'm guessing Intel...they're one of the biggest players for SSDs for data centers.

That's a good point...what happens in 10 years when hard drive size goes down and capacity goes up? I know we'll be storing even more massive amounts of data then, but at some point, someone will come up with ways to compress the data and not need a 500,000 sq ft building to store it!

Logical Conclusion

Big data centers on each coast. Obviously NASA doesn't know where the big asteroid is going to hit so Apple is going to store everyone's data in two places hoping only one coast has the 2 mile high tidal wave. ;)

Oh wait, I DID see the movie....it is the east coast!!! Now it all makes sense......
