Are you saying you see some real world utility (not just eye candy) in flyover?

Today's eye candy has the potential to become practical in the future! I don't mind Apple dedicating resources to eye candy, especially when it has potential to become something great. Imagine how fantastic it will be when we have detailed, accurate, and closeup 3D renderings of all cities.

Well, yes it can be useful if they improved it to that extent, but before you work on extra features you need to get the core system (accuracy) correct. Like I said , Apple maps is not bad, but could be greatly improved.

Firstly, thank you for the city shout out ...but we are nowhere near the sea =)

I always jest we are border control for the welsh, but I love Wales. The country is truly amazing from roads, to healthcare to the geography. There is some truly stunning places that if given flyover would blow away these ' tourist attraction ' places that Apple has been concentrating on.
I spent quite a bit of time in Hereford a few years back, and ventured into Wales a few times. It was a local who gave me that quote, when I asked about the seagulls that seemed to be everywhere. I think he meant that if Wales were to disappear, Hereford would be near the sea.

honestly, Apple Maps has a bad rap from the initial launch fiasco. it's gotten much, much, MUCH better to where it can compete with Google Maps.

I think ppl are just hesitant to give it another look b/c they just don't know that's its gotten better. It keeps getting the same bashing even though its not the same.

TRY IT: pick a route you normally take and test both driving directions and see what you think. Apple Maps has a much better GI than Google Maps. it's easier to read, follow and easier on the eyes. Apple just needs to market it.

Only downside to Apple Maps is that Google Maps has more business info rt now.
Apple Maps only runs on iOS and OS X, has an awful UI on iOS and is useless in Moscow. How can I consider it as a competitor to Google Maps, which runs on practically everything, has a great UI everywhere and works beautifully in Moscow?

Oooooh! They're adding imagery to /existing/ cities with aerial 3D imagery. The headline made me think Apple was adding places like Lincoln, Nebraska or Topeka, Kansas. You know, cities you only ever fly over.

They never say so specifically, that these are enhancements to Apple's "Maps" app, but presumably they are.

I'm just glad to see them continuing to give dev juice to Maps.

Once upon a time, Google maps had utility and was easy to use. For GPS usage, I fricking love Maps because it works, and works "logically" without too many steps to get route/mapping info.

I don't use the full on GPS information and driving directions... I prefer to LOOK at the map before setting out, and then just drive it and use the live mapping as reference for when I'll be making a turn.

Great!

More of the most useless feature of any map app ever.

I really don't like Google, but nothing beats Street View.

That's funny, because I find Street View completely USELESS!! I'm trying this flyover tour feature now and it's awesome!
