Equivalent to about 7% of Ireland's national debt and the government does not want the money.

EU is made of corrupted bureaucrats who are about to destroy Europe.
But they will get a taste of their own medicine soon.

By the UK leaving? I am sure the EU are trembling in their boots (or maybe they're just wondering why the UK is committing economic self-harm like a stroppy teenager).

Comparatively speaking that $15.3B was a third of Apple's $45B net income for 2017. If that's like you getting a bill for $15.30, back of napkin math says you're broke.:p:D There's no scenario where $15B is a trivial amount. Even spread over two years of payments, there's nothing trivial about that amount of money.
Apple is worth over 1,000 billion dollars. 15 of those today is chump change to them.

Well, at least UK will have a full control of their own country (a worthy tread off if you ask me) and not being ruled by some ****ing scumbag bureaucrats who decides what a ******** your country can become and creating this madness in Europe. But don't you worry, they for sure are heading to a dead end. Hungary and Poland, including Italy are the first to stand up. At the end all the countrys will say no to these ****ing morons of Brussel.

I thought Apple was just paying the back taxes into escrow while the appeal was working its way through the process, not that Apple finally accepted responsibility for the liability...?

That is what happened. The original EU ruling and the EU lawsuit that was just dropped are two separate things. The full amount is in escrow while Apple and Ireland appeal the original EU ruling.

This article is very misleading because it sounds like Apple gave up and paid the tax, which is not what has happened at all. The money is sitting in escrow awaiting the appeal process. It could be paid to Ireland if the EU ruling is determined to be correct, or it could be returned to Apple if Apple is correct about how the EU ruling was mistaken.

You go with that. That's your prerogative. Imma go wit the fact that the $15B is real money and no matter how much someone has $15B is never going to be an insignificant amount. That trillion dollar valuation is not real money. That can literally be gone tomorrow.

Unfortunately I think they do know what they are doing. There aren't enough wars these days so they probably want to steer things in that direction on a global scale. Why else piss off every other country while massively building up our defenses? They want to recreate the economic boom and development of the 50s or something weird where America was on top and everyone else was poor and rebuilding. That's not sustainable. The reason Apple gets a pass is because they got on Trump's good side with their plans for those big, beautiful plants in the U.S. which will happen "someday." I think Apple played the president and I'm not surprised he doesn't realize it.
Not sure if I can associate such a sneaky long term plan with DT...what you’re saying is basically that he’s a new hitler, just steering everything towards war. I don’t give him so much credit on the ideological side of things.

Yeah, but there are certainly lots of people around him who can steer him wherever they want. He's the puppet. It's why he's not actually running the country and the "grownups in the room" are. I was hardcore republican (don't hold it against me, I was raised that way) when I was younger and a member of different student groups and I remember lots of talk among republicans that I knew as well as in my family talking about how good war is for the economy and how we need to support the war effort so we can get the economy back on track, etc. It's like their favorite thing to do.

Yes correct. But truth doesn’t make for another lazy MacRumors clickbait feature, and fantasy fodder for the pro tax everything to death crowd.

Apple's worth a trillion dollars. 15 billion is NOTHING to them. Evading taxes in USA was for their benefit, I'm sure they're saving regardless.

That $1tn is not real money. Nothing more than a financial weather report. If all the shareholders tried to make good on that valuation and attempted to sell, that $1tn valuation would plummet to nothing.

The $15bn paid in is from Apple's liquid funds. Hard cash. A huge difference. If it truly meant nothing to Apple, Apple would not have gone to great lengths to evade paying tax in the first place nor kicked up such a fuss about the ruling from the EU.

Spooky!

So this is why iPhones are even pricier this year....

Nope. Two totally unrelated items. Phones are pricer because Apple chose to use pricer components and keep their profit margins the same.

If you believe Apple they didn’t go to ‘great lengths to evade paying’ anything. Which is why they are appealing the ruling. They say, and Ireland says, that no favoritism was involved. Paying now means that if they lose they can’t be hit with a penalty for not originally paying.

All so we can have corrupt idiots in London rather than in Brussels. Swell.

In your own country you have at least a chance to fight them but you can do **** all about Brussels vampires.

I am a US citizen living in Scotland. Two generations of my family gave years of their young men's lives because European nationalism got out of control twice, like it threatens to do now. I guess I just feel it is a shame that a structure that has largely kept the peace in Europe for such a long time is being attacked by people who do not seem to have any sense of history. For all the supposed corruption in Brussels, the UK had influence in Europe and the situation was stable. Now the EU will tell the UK to go f*** itself, and conflicts (e.g., over fishing rights in the Channel, Gibraltar and the treatment of both UK and EU ex-pats) are bound to flare up, and the old hatreds are likely to raise their ugly heads again. Mark my words: once nationalists have finished attacking the EU, those in adjacent European countries will begin attacking each other.

Rubbish. You have a vote. The fact that a majority is uninterested in politics, uniformed as to what parties stand for, let alone what they are up to, and doesn't even bother to vote in elections is the reason we have the governance we have. Brexit will change none of this.

We now have a shambles of a government propped up by a bribe of our tax money paid over to a joke of a sectarian organisation, whose political views were already outdated in the Middle Ages.

Taking back control and handing it to Paisley's mob.

It's not nationalism who have gotten out of control (that's exactly what they won't us to believe)
It's the stupid open border policy that is threatening Europe. You really don't need to do much, just pay some visits to some Iconic cities like Paris who have turned into a ******** as a result of this crazy EU experiment. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...is-covered-rubbish-left-African-migrants.html
Is not only Paris. It is all major cities around Europe (minus some brave countries who are standing against Brussel Vampires)

Soon enough will be enough and people are gonna want their countries back and yes, you can call them ultra nationalists or what not all you want.
