Apple Fitness+ launched this morning for Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, but people who have been attempting to use the feature on an iPad have run into a hiccup.

apple-fitness-plus-no-ipad.jpg

On the iPad, the Fitness app isn't installed automatically and must be downloaded from the App Store. Unfortunately, when attempting to download the app, iPad users are running into an error message that says "This app requires specific features not available on this device."

This message shows up even on a compatible iPad that's running iPadOS 14.3, which is supposed to unlock Fitness+. The feature appears to be working on the iPhone and the Apple TV at this time, but until the Fitness app can be downloaded properly on the iPad, iPad owners have no way to use Fitness+.

Apple is likely working to get the Fitness app out for iPad owners, but there's no ETA on when it might be available at this time. We've reached out to Apple for more information and will update this article if and when we hear back or when the app goes live.

Update 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time: The Fitness+ app can now be downloaded on the iPad.

I realize this probably has more to do with my limited understanding of what it takes for the App Store and iOS updates to work and roll out, but how did we get to an eagerly anticipated, 11th-hour launch of Apple Fitness+ and somehow no one knew that the iPad app wasn’t ready in the App Store?

It is shocking that Apple didn’t just allow fitness+ without other apple accessories, as this will probably cut out a large number of users to the service. Not to mention that a lot of people seem to be having difficulties, the launch of fitness+ will probably be a failure.

I don’t have it on my Apple TV either after just updated the device. What am I missing? Airplay from iPhone doesn’t work either. It only plays the sound
It works on my Apple TV after updating to 14.3. I'm in Canada.

I have
It in the Fitness app ... icon looks like Activity rings

My 2018 iPad Pro 11” has the fitness app. Didn’t have to do anything. Seemed to download automatically as it wasn’t there one minute but there the next minute.

My 2020 iPad Pro 12.9” does not have the app yet.

I was really hoping to be able to do this on my iPad instead of in front of the TV (with my AirPods in). I just assumed this wouldn't be a feature - glad to see that it looks like that might be on the table for the future. :)

Excluding the iPhone (works as expected), my experience is not great.

In the case of iPad, same issue as the rest of the folks here, can't download the app.

With ATV, I see the app but no matter what I try (including restarting both devices), my S6 won't get past the "connecting" step...just sits there spinning.

I was looking for the Fitness app in the app store on my iPad and it doesn't even show up in search. They must have taken it down completely. I was hoping to do a cycling workout with the iPad tonight, but may have to start with iPhone as my screen.

same here! Apple TV just says connecting and on the Apple Watch it gives up and goes back to the training selection after a while

Not a big deal as will likely always use it on Apple TV

first Workout done and impressed so far

I must admit, despite feeling bad that you're experiencing it, I also feel better that you are lol. At least I know I'm not alone!

Seems like you can use it without the watch.
