An audit? Thats what you call it?

😆😆😆🤣🤣🤣

Well, we know where your loyalties lie. And where you likely get your news.
It is an audit. That’s what you call a financial inquest, when you trace payments and authorizations and allocations and disbursements. Get a dictionary.

If this is what you imagine an audit looks like all that tells me is that you’ve never actually been involved in an audit.
I have a degree in accounting. I have worked for the then second largest company in the world. I run my own business. And yes that is an audit. It’s also rather transparent. You had no idea at all of what was being spent, allocated, apportioned, issued or categorized… that is why one does audits. And that is what is happening.

These comments are ridiculous and only show how poorly the American educational system is functioning. Doing a financial audit for the first time since 1953 (though it is a Constitutional requirement) is not a purge. It is public info and one of the most transparent things the US government has done in three generations. Not only that, the US systems have been so abused over overridden that the only way an audit can be done these days is using AI. It could not have been done even three years ago. Techies ought to be celebrating this.
It is a purge when people are fired because they somehow wronged Trump and replacement puppets are installed to head what's left of government departments. These installed puppets now owe Trump; i.e. consolidating power like a dictator.

They could do a proper government audit to find waste, redundancy, inefficiencies, etc.. Instead, the trick is to do things very quickly to getaway with doing illegal things. They know they will be sued and will stall it in courts.

My dude

* first of all, I assume you've never seen The Governments USA Spending site at https://www.usaspending.gov which seems to be where Musk's pulled a lot of their numbers from and claimed they "found" them

* second of all how can you call this transparent when DOGE's site is riddled with mistakes, exaggerations, and outright lies. When they have bothered to fix the mistakes they've introduced new ones.

* Third of all, ok, you have a degree in accounting... guess what none of Musk's goons have? Know what they definitely dont have? Anyone who's ever worked on large scale financial systems, any forensic accountants, an open paper trail, or secure systems. Hell, the DOGE folks even try and avoid identifying themselves (which, BTW, is illegal, government employees, even SGEs as they are, are required to be disclosed by law, along with compensation). Hell, his wiz kid coders have made massive mistakes because they cant understand the COBOL stacks used in some of the biggest of these systems.

* I also assume you've never actually been *involved* in an audit from your response. I have, in fact I'm involved in major audits every year. I'm on the small core team of engineers that architect, build, and maintain the infrastructure and connective tissue for one of the largest data platforms in the world. We have yearly federal audits, we have yearly corporate financial audits, we have yearly European audits for similar things to the feds, and we have yearly internal systems and spending audits. I'm point on a number of core components of all of those. What's going on with DOGE is the sloppiest idea of an audit I've ever seen. It's amateur hour.

No, Trump lost a civil case regarding sexual assault.
Yes, he did. Outside NY that qualifies calling him a rapist without any worry of libel/slander. The only reason Trump was able to press his case on ABC is NY's legal difference (and it's likely ABC could have won that case if they'd wanted to spend the money on fighting it, but it seems like they wanted to avoid being a target of Trump's currently rather vindictive FCC)
He was not found guilty of sexual assault with proof beyond reasonable doubt in a criminal court.
See above.
Civil court has a much lower standard as well as a much higher level of "just make the one with the money pay."
That's super inaccurate. Yes, the burden of proof is lower, but it's not a "just make the person with money pay" situation.
So, not the same thing. Even in that case, the jury specifically ruled out rape, and took sexual assault and battery.
Only because NY has very delineated categories. In literally any other state what NY calls sexual assault would be called rape. It's literally semantics.
There is a ton of legal work on this and it all says that that verdict can in no way be construed to say that Trump was found criminally guilty of rape, sexual assault, or rape.
See above
The housing discrimination suit was from the late 1960s and early 1970s. If we are going to accept that Joe Biden went from a segregationist in 1977 (when he was 35) to a friend to minorities in 2008, then we can't be throwing DJT under the bus for something he did even before that, and in while he was still in his twenties.
I'm fine with throwing Biden under the bus for his ******** too, did you think those of us left of center have the same cult loyalty you seem to to Trump? Biden was a terrible person then, and not really much better now. I'm still grumpy at the DNC for shoving him on us.

It’s not an audit. It’s line-item-veto of the federal government by the richest man in the world, who has billions of dollars in contracts with that same government. He is also regulated by departments of the government that he is gutting.
Also, he owns perhaps the most influential news app in the world, and downranks posts on that app that link to outside news sources. And that same app that he controls is also where a huge number of people discuss the news. And people who fund him get higher ranking in that app.

Maybe you don’t care about all those conflicts of interest, but be honest about it.

Agree!
I think most Americans do not care at all. They voted for a president who orders Musk. Trump hired him to do what he does.
It’s not Musk, but Trump. Simple as that.

Certainly on life support, yes. But more and more people in Europe start to think of the US as another enemy.

Edit: I have to nuance this…many people in Europe see the Trump administration as an enemy. I hope it will not see the USA as an enemy (meaning Americans in general), but it will when all stays quiet in the US and when the great orange leader/dictator is allowed to do anything he wants.

I think for a lot of Europeans the last week has been an awakening and a change of opinion that is likely permanent. both for those whom last week was a surprise and for those that were already skeptical.

the one thing that Trump is right about (when he talks about European defense spending) is that Europe needs to stop seeing America as its defender, in fact Europe needs to see America like it sees China, or as it did Russia pre war. Britain needs to get over its Brexit issue and realize that being a partner of Europe is far more sensible than being America's plaything.

If things continue like they do now, Europe needs to see the US like it sees Russia at this moment. Enemy for both economy and safety.
Beside that, I think many Trump measures will backfire. Americans too will suffer.

As an American (with dual citizenship, thank god), I would tell all former allies to plan for the USA to be an enemy at worst and a neutral globally unintereseted society in collapse, at best.

The USA information sphere is so broken (R's have pivoted to literally parroting exact Kremlin messaging) that there is no way to correct this, short of bottoming out and massive pain for society.

I guess it's been a failure of education over decades also, as we don't seem to have a general population that is, on average, very good at critical thinking or analysis of cause and effect. (I'm putting this as delicately as I can)

Unfortunately I have to agree. Incredible that a majority of US citizens seems to agree with Trump and his breakdown of democracy. I hope this is just my colored vision, but I’m afraid I’m correct, as I do not see any very strong and united opposition yet.

It's all about information capture.
None of this would have been possible pre-internet and the ability to silo yourself and then fully exist within algorithms.

I have extremely "book smart" friends who are now MAGA and will tell you, straight to your face, that Ukraine invaded Russia, the 2020 election was stolen, vaccines are all bad ... on down the line.

You wouldn't believe it until you witness it from people you know, and know well ... and whom you knew in 2015 and before.

It's so broken that it's basically impossible to convey how bad this is.

So. Even worse than I thought. I hope your dual citizenship will help you.
