perhaps not but are they working on it or have they said they have zero plans to do so. if they are working on it then Apple would likely work with them. fitbit has declared they have no intention of adapting so why give them shelf space. give it to someone else

The Jawbone does,

For ~$30 more I would go with the Band or Peak.[/QUOTE]

fairly ugly thing to be wearing all the time. Will have to examine the tech to see what it offers and the future roadmap to software upgrade is worth versus UP3 is promising

Partnering

If you buy something at an Apple Store there is an expectation that said device will integrate with the iOS. Since FitBit has said they have no plans to integrate, then Apple is doing the right thing by its cusomers by removing FitBit hardware.

If you read the FitBit forums there are plenty of angry people who thought "because it's in an Apple store of course it will integrate". After all, what is FitBit without an apple app?

I like fitbit, especially how it integrates with my iphone.

HealthApp and the Fitbit app do some things the same, but some things very differently. I don't think they even compete in the same space, other than tracking steps and eventually heart rate.

Fitbit allows me to be in competition with friends and family to see who can get the most steps. It lets me send them messages and get updates throughout the day. I can see the progress of myself and my friends in the fit bit app.

HealthApp does not have the functionality right now. Right now, fitbit moving into the HealthApp would be a downgrade in functionality for Fitbit.
I don't think that is the issue. They could put some resources to mirror the duplicates to the apple app and keep their official app at the same time that can do much more, but they don't want to do that. You ask why should they duplciate, because if you have other devices that take advantage of the apple app then you have a more rounded figure and more data to work with inside the apple app.

You know Tim Jobs why don't you remove Kindle, Pondora, Spotify, any Google App fromyour Apple Store? Clearly they're your competition.

Give us choice or we shall leave!

:apple:
Since when do they sell Kindle and subscriptions to third party music services at Apple Stores?

I have the same question, does Jawbone fitness bands work with Apple's Health app?

In theory, it does. It populates steps, calories, and sometimes sleep (but not in detail). I have so much crap hooked up to HealthKit I'm not sure what else it sends.

I was really interested in the Up3 (I have the original Up) until I updated the app and it messed up my tracking. That seems to happen after EVERY update. I don't know if I want to keep dealing with that. I want seamless!

Waiting for Apple to announce a line of designer clothing to match their jewelry division. Perhaps an Apple car is in their future too. Call it the "Apple iPutt".

I am beginning to feel like a prisoner of the Apple "ecosystem". After 11 years with Apple products, I'm looking for a way out.

Prisoner? LOL! How is a strong ecosystem a bad thing? or is just change for the sake of change?

LOL. The Irony of an Apple user complaining about not getting enough choice was enough to make me bang my knee on the underside of the desk.

You entered your walled garden and now complain about the lack of variety in the flowers?

My guess is for fitbit to work with healthkit would require a complete rewrite of the app from the ground up. Or the api requirements make it impossible for the current devices to work with healthkit so now all existing items out there do not work any more.
In both cases it is a lot of money that has to be spent with huge risk and little gain. Mix with they more than likely saw healthkit was a nightmare and it is a true wait and see if it improves.

Fitbit was removed from Apple Stores, simply because FitBit Pissed off Apple BIG, by betraying to Apple that they were supporting HealthKit.

During WWDC this year, Fitbit was announced as a partner for HealthKit, meaning before the conference, FitBit had access to HealthKit API, and they promised to Apple that they would support the device when iOS 8 came out.

When FitBit announced that they would not support HealthKit, they basically betrayed Apple by not supporting the initiative that was promised before the WWDC.

And when you piss off Apple big time, you pay the price, and in this case, FitBit is banned from Apple Store, FOR LIFE.....

Other health band devices will be continued to be sold, EVEN AFTER Apple Watch is released, because it's competition, and Apple likes competition. It's when you piss off Apple by betraying them is what can get products banned for life.

Fit bit would not have to give up any of the functions in their own app to send information to the Health app. I do all the things you mention with the Up app and the Up app writes step and sleep information to the Health app.

It updates steps and sleep but not calories.

And that access might of been was confirmed not wanting to do it. They saw all the issues early on. Also being in stage does not mean they had early access to anything as Apple is super secret on everything.
Like I said before. Existing devices or app would require a complete rewrite to work.
The device might not be able to work with it at all or they lack access to key stuff for them.

What deters me from buying a Fitbit/Jawbone/MicrosoftBand/etc is their A)determination to upload my data (in this case very personal health data) to their own servers to further monetize and B) not giving me an easy Healthkit app datsharing so that I can keep the data that I own.
For years Apple has been hammered for not having the cloud expertise as Google or these startups. They are clearly turning this negative into a strength going forward and becoming the privacy company. Keeping a user's data is as much a liability in their eyes as it is a datamining opportunity for everyone else.

To each their own. Lack of health app integration and server upload, bothers me not.

I could care the fitbit is tracking my steps. I'm more concerned about widespread abuse of power the government has been showing of late.

The iPhone 5s, 6, and 6 Plus all track sleep without a device on your body.

--------------------------------------------------

As an avid user of the Fitbit One since its inception, Jawbone Up before that, I can't say that I'm surprised. Truthfully, I think that iOS Healthkit pretty much put the nails in the coffin for Fitbit. Just as the Apple Watch is going to put a hurting on Pebble. And I say that as a supporter of both products. Both my Pebble and Fitbit have battery life on the iPhone/Apple Watch but why carry both a Fitbit and an iPhone when the iPhone counts steps/miles and tracks sleep too?

Right, but as you know the advantage of the fitbit is that it knows movement, and therefore is able to guess when you are awake, which is more than an iPhone functionality.

Friend working at Apple HQ said FitBit was given advanced access at HealthKit API before WWDC and was even planning to release update to app with HealthKit. They even promised Tim Cook in person that FitBit will support HealthKit right away.

They had no problems until close to release of iOS 8 that forced Apple to yank HealthKit apps due to a bug. (Which apparently was crashing springboard)

That's when FitBit changed their mind and decided to not support HealthKit. And that apparently angered Cook for FitBit to backstab Apple. Which is why they are banned from Apple Store FOR LIFE. They almost yanked their apps altogether and enable the KILL SWITCH as retaliation but that was avoided due to potential trouble with FTC.
