Yes but you were right about gaming on a Mac.
Speaking of "last year technology" about an iPhone 5c is misleading.
There are plenty of smartphones out there that are "this year" phones and still are worse than "last year" iPhone 5 .....

True, but that will still put them in the same category IMHO. The only saving grace for the iPhone is that it's a far better tuned device than any other handset out there. I can't prove that, I am just going on the fact that it's all designed and made by the same company.

While some handsets will be this year's tech with 3 years ago's iPhone performance, the flagships will always be tomorrows tech, with tomorrows price, with tomorrow's features, running at today's iPhone speeds.

Gaming on the Mac is always tricky. Running some games, like Civ5, Sim City, The Sims, etc. is fine (when they eventually come out for the Mac) other titles may not be as smooth at higher settings. Then there's the issue of longevity.

How do sales of 5S/5C compare with 5/4S and 4S/4 when those newer ones were released?

This is the ONLY question to answer !

People keep comparing iPhone 5c sales with iPhone 5s sales, but the real comparison to make is between 5c and last year 4s, and rumors are that they are way bigger.

iPhone 5c could be overpriced (I think is 100$ overpriced), but it's by no mean a flagship product. The flagship is 5s, with tomorrow technology and today's performance as you said.

5c is a very good smartphone, with solid performance and an above the average construction quality.
Call it "last year technology" could be correct in a technical way, but is very misleading on a commercial side.

If Apple had kept the iPhone 5 but knocked off $100 would that be too expensive?

No, not at all. The 5c is a brand new phone made from plastic. Compared to the sleek 5s, the 5c 'looks' like it should cost less. It looks like a kid's phone and there's nothing wrong with that but the price is too high. Apple really flubbed this one.
