I had mine replaced at noon the Friday after launch and it came in the black box. They said I was the first person to have one replaced at that store.
 
The more frustrating part was when he handed me the new unit to replace my current one he could not see or acted like he could not see the green tint blob when taking a pic...

Assuming he wasn't being a jerk, he might not have been able to see it if he was colorblind (red/green colorblindness affects something like 7-10% of the male population). I'm not colorblind, so I don't know how the green blob looks to someone that is, but it's something to check if you run across the situation in the future.
 
I got my iPhone 3G replaced the other week and its replacement was in a black plastic box (about 1.5in thick) with my name printed on the top.
