Pretty incredible if true. (Honestly unsure how reliable this site is.)

If it's anywhere near that amount, it already blows out the 9 million the 5S/C did.

Sources in China pointed out that, unlike the launch of iPhone 5s same time last year which received only 9 million preorders on the first day, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus received 16 million preorders in one day.

Sorry but I can't trust the source. "Source in China"??? They are not in position to know the number.

I'm pretty skeptical...the article is mistaken--Apple didn't get 9 million preorders, and certainly not on the first day. Apple got 9 million unit sales on OPENING WEEKEND.

I don't believe there's any public record of Apple announcing how many people preordered.

They only tend to announce the unit sales for opening weekend (which would be the weekend of the 20th-21st for this year)

Regardless, 16M would still be incredible!

If that's accurate, I think the best response would be "Mother Nature just pissed her pantsuit!"

Maybe the 9 million "preorders" is supposed to reference how many phones Apple ordered from China manufacturers before launch day.

If they doubled their 5S first day sales that would be great. 2.7 million 5S sold the first day. You noticed in the article they said 9 million 5S first day preorders sales. Only one thing wrong, really really wrong with the article. There were no 5S preorders.

Careful there.. Samsung *SHIPPED* the phones. No one has said anything about how many phones they actually *SOLD*.

Sitting in a warehouse isn't really making anyone money....

Lol, yeah I remember hearing about that. I guess we'll never know.

Numbers should definitely be a lot higher than the 5s/c.

The 6/6+ includes the 5s/c market AND the phablet market/phablet converts.
