Apple today received FCC approval for its MagSafe Duo Wireless Charger accessory, which means it could be launching in the near future. An imminent release also makes sense given that MagSafe Duo reviews went live today.

The FCC filing covers a "two coil charger" with a model number of A2458. The filing includes images, user manuals, and RF exposure reports.

Apple announced the MagSafe Duo at its October event that saw the unveiling of the iPhone 12 lineup and the new MagSafe accessories, but the charger continues to be listed as "Coming Soon" on Apple's site.

The MagSafe Duo is priced at $129, combining a MagSafe charger for iPhone with an Apple Watch charging puck for Apple Watch in a fold-over design ideal for travel.

Reviews suggest the charger works well, but the build quality with the rubber casing is questionable, it does not come with a power adapter for charging purposes, and it's lightweight enough that it doesn't stay on the desk when you pick up a charging MagSafe iPhone. TechCrunch, in fact, called it "a bit underwhelming" and said it's not really worth the money.

Apple has also received regulatory approval for the MagSafe Duo in other countries such as Korea ahead of its official launch.

MagSafe looking poor. Can imagine the transition to port-less design won’t be smooth. Will they include MagSafe with the next phone?
Subjective. After using the MagSafe from day one with the iPhone 12, I find it much more convenient than plugging in, I can personally see myself never plugging in an iPhone again tbh. Not all accessories will be worth the hype, and they can improve on the magsafe charger itself, but even as is, I find it annoying to need to plug in now.

I think this is really cool but in Australia at least, $65 for the magsafe charger, $45 for an Apple Watch one, together $200....

So much hate for a completely optional accessory.

For some people (myself included) it’s worth paying a premium to have something that matches the Apple design language of other devices. I‘ve tried other third-party chargers and never found one where I love the look AND functionality. Those other options still exist, at lower prices, and more with MagSafe are undoubtedly on the way. But if this is an option Apple wants to offer its customers, what’s wrong with that?

I’ll be buying one as soon as they become available, and would buy two (one for home one for work) if money were no object.

Hard to see this getting much traction being so late to market as a category. I use and love the Nomad wireless base station w/ the Apple Watch option. It was $129 and you can still find it for that. They've since updated/added models but the original one for $129 is the best, and I think the best on the market period. I helped Kickstart Slice too and that isn't anywhere near as good.

Charger + power brick in the price of used Mac Mini 2012. Shareholders must be delighted.
