While Apple is spending every week changing the safari tab, how about they gave some love to notes? I still cannot believe, that there’s no ability to color code and highlight text. I know theres an unofficial way of doing so on MacOS, but it’s not a part of the official tool set.

Text coloring/color highlighting and a devider (horizontal line). That’s all I’m asking for… but with my luck beta 7 will be another safari tab change, they’re probably gonna transport that ugly outline on the iPhone version too.

Every time Notes evolves, it's in a "good enough" state as opposed to competitors.
I'm using it for meetings at work, on an individual basis, and I couldn't summarize better. It's "good enough".

I've used Notion in my personal life for instance, a friend of mine is using Obsidian, some others use Bear, Confluence, etc... they're always ahead of Notes, but some of them come with a fee, or a learning curve.

I’ve used OneNote for 3 years during my study days and it was perfect! But it’s also not as fast as Apple Notes and out of sync at times. So, after I completed my studies I’ve been trying to use Apple Notes as it seems much faster and natural in some ways, but it misses some key elements in order to take good notes. I’ve tried notion and its only usuable on my Mac, not on iPad and on iPhone it looks awful… the biggest issues I have with notion is that it doesn’t offer normal tables, only databases

I tried OneNote a few times, but never really liked it.
As for Notion, yes, their tables are bulky if you just want to put some quick information in them. But I really like it. It also supports math formulas (which I would have loved to have in college and university, but I used Word back then and they were also present).

Notes to me feels like just a widget, not a full fledged app, I use it to throw a short "note" into it for later review, probably could use reminders for the same thing.

I use Goodnotes, any of the big note apps are so far in front Notes though, there is no comparison, they are fully fledged note taking apps.

Goodnotes is amazing if you're into writing them with a pencil. But not for typing notes.

They should rather invest time and money into making calendar and mail stink less. These apps barely had any proper business class feature additions over the last decade.

I think Notes is fine as it is - Simple.
It's not a page layout program.
If you want to do something fancy, that's what Pages is for.
To highlight important text in Notes I use some of the Symbol emojis

Having the ability to highlight or text isn't a fancy feature, it's a necessity, especially if you're a student where you are thought the importance of color-coding your notes. I use emojis, too, at some stuff, but it's not a proper way for me

The main thing I wish they would add to Notes is revision history.

We know they *keep* it already, as you can look at a shared note's history in iOS 15 to see who changed what, but there's no way to access the history in detail.
