What is the point of publishing these pictures? Why would anyone want to see a personal picture that is no different, or even worse than the photos on Apple's website? Or is this an advertisement for Flicker (whatevr) ?

As I understand it, there is a slang term for this practice of taking many photos of Apple gear and posting them to Flickr.

If memory serves isn't Apple taking back iPods when employees leave the company? I swear I read that somewhere...if so this isn't so much a gift as a loaner program. If not...never mind.

Everyone seems to like them. Jealous much?

2nd gen shuffle dissection

And as soon as they get someone to take pictures of the new product sitting on their desk, they want pictures of someone completely dissembling it. Which, without wasting any time, someone does, and, of course, posts a bunch of pictures. Whatever, sometimes these pictures and dissections do turn up something remotely interesting that isn't mentioned on Apple's website.

Nope, doesn't happen. If it were a "loaner" program, the employee would have to agree to it in advance and sign a document to that effect in order for it to be legally binding. Otherwise, if Apple gives employees an iPod, it's figured the same as any other bonus or incentive. The employee gets it and it's their's to keep. Apple has to declare some sort of assignable value to it and employees (if their current pay and bonus situation requires) will have to pay the appropriate payroll taxes for that value. The iPods being so cheap anyway, I don't think they'd be subjected to extra payroll tax.

if you guys are not bored with pictures of the new shuffle....

oh well thanks!... Hum... that's the stupidity of taking pictures of your brand new shuffle if front of a friend's computer... :)

I wonder if this will apply in Australia. I know my friend works at Streetwise. That would be pretty cool

Oh man, that is so awesome of Steve! I know someone who works at an Apple Store and I'm sure he will love it. Color me jeaus! :p By the way...

WHO VOTES THIS NEGATIVE???

They're not an employee of Apple, Streetwise are a reseller. The only Apple employees here in Australia are the Solutions Consultants in the big department stores and the people working in head office. Apple don't have an official retail presence here.

Nice to hear Apple giving it's employee's a little treat. :)

Yes, but not of current consumer goods produced en masse. Cool pictures might be: discontinued models still in service, modified computers, etc.

At least we weren't posting pictures of covered banners again.

employees getting free iPod Shuffle = positive
posting ridiculous pictures = negative

Why does it bother you so much? There just pictures.

I just got mine today. All I can say is this thing is friggin' awesome. Two notes the transfer speed via headphone jack is insanely fast. My 1stGen Shuffle was terribly slow so I wasn't expecting much. Second, what the heck am I going to do with those mini-sized Apple stickers?

Oh, and I went to the Apple Store today and bought a pair of the brand new earbuds, these things feel better and sound way better than the older pair(s).

Anywho, both great buys! I'm very satisfied.

UPDATE: Apple has posted a 2ndGen iPod Shuffle Update 1.0.1 for bug fixes.

why would it not be true.
Jobs is smart. Its like clothes brand models. The brand makes them were their clothes all the time. The models show a card when they go into a store and get to walk out with whatever clothes they want for free.
brand building and making your employees fees special. not rocket science but still genius.

Unfortunately, a lot of companies do not do this (or anything similar) for their employees. I've worked for a bunch of companies over the years, and precisely two of them gave me access to discounts on stuff sold. And as for Sony, well, their stuff (for what you get) is so damn overpriced to begin with that it really didn't matter much.

Doubt they have made too many. If they haven't even hit the shops yet, who's to tell what general damand will end up being?

Exactly and: http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/02/...-and-left-bare-for-the-world-to-see/#comments

the Fedex driver said he had over 50 of these to deliver on his route and joked that he should have bought some Apple stock last year

Because I've read that quote earlier today, I've asked the TNT girl that delivered my Shuffle how much they've got, and she told me that yesterday the whole transporter was full of them. :D

mmmm, mac pr0n

kidding aside, it's nice to see some big corporations still giving a crap about their employees and giving them something nice during the holidays. $80 gift, not too shabby.

So many places don't give xmas bonuses, thanksgiving turkeys, etc, to the people that keep them business, but are more than willing to give millions to their (often shady) executives.

I remember learning in business school that a little goes a long way in motivating employees, and you can't really get smaller than the shuffle.:p
