I canceled Netflix two months ago. Nothing really interesting, tons of garbage and I easily replaced the children's stuff with Amazon, which I have for free with Prime.

But Apple's lineup starts to look very nerd-y and interesting.

Netflix is far superior to anything in the market, tons of great stuff ... maybe apple kicks it, lets see — am always happy if someone does great things

Apple was not on the list for some time, only AirPods are a one hit wonder recently, must be a great team who have done this inside the apple we see today.

Be afraid, very afraid. This is one complicated series of novels, to get it right is gonna be very hard.

Apple has followed through with plans to create a television series based on Isaac Asimov's famous Foundation novels and has recently given a straight to series order for the show, reports Deadline.

Apple first inked a deal for the TV series adaptation of Foundation back in April, but the show was still in development at that time.

The Foundation TV series is being developed by Skydance, with David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman serving as executive producers and showrunners. Goyer has previously worked on "The Dark Knight," "Batman Begins," Ghost Rider," and more, while Friedman is known for "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and "Emerald City."

Foundation is Isaac Asimov's most popular and well-known science fiction series, which includes titular novel Foundation, Foundation and Empire, and Second Foundation, along with additional books Foundation's Edge and Foundation and Earth.

The series follows psychohistory expert and mathematician Hari Seldon who is able to predict the future. Seldon creates a group called the Foundation to preserve humanity's collective knowledge ahead of the impending fall of the Galactic Empire. The novels span many years and cover the rise and fall of multiple empires, making it an ambitious television project.

In addition to the Foundation series, Apple has more than a dozen TV shows in development in total, and rumors have suggested we could see the first of these debut starting in March of 2019. Don't F this up, 

Sweet Jeebus. Apple's entertainment endeavors are becoming the new "bank X now offers Apple Pay" or "Car Y now supports CarPlay" or... ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz

How about we let them get a decent portfolio of projects in the can at least. Thousands of projects are optioned every year and most never even make it to, let alone beyond production. A lot of this announced stuff may never see the light of day.

I think a lot of sci-fi can be bettered through a TV series. Films never really have the time to get it all in. Dune needs a series more than a film, Alistair Reynolds and Peter Hamilton are some more recent ones that could transfer well along with Asimov and the other greats.

But it needs a good script and die hard fans can expect some diversion from the main book plots I expect.

This and Dune are the two greats that have never been done right or done at all.

Denis Villeneuve is taking a shot at Dune. I don't know if he can pull it off, but he's done good work with sci-fi and I can't think of a better choice than him.

Please no butchery like I, Robot.. That was a piece of trash and didn't follow the books at all.
I loved the Foundation series.
Asimov has a book of bawdy limericks that is funny as heck.

I did not dislike I, Robot as a standalone action movie. As an Asimov-based movie? Awful.

The tv series, though low on budget, was very good. I fear his attempt will not do it.

Hope I am wrong.

Foundation will be a framework around which they'll be able to build any old Galactic Empire stories they want, and Asimov's dusty ideas will be shoved aside as rapidly as possible. New predictions from the Seldon simulacrum will be the focal point of story arcs.

Don't forget about Prelude to Foundation and Forward the Foundation!

On topic, I'm not super worried about this show (if it's not good, I won't watch, easy enough), but I do think no matter who they get they're going to have an uphill battle adapting those books into good TV. At least they're not trying to do a movie, though.

In other news, Apple is releasing a thicker MacBook pro with 36 hours of battery life, discrete graphics, and usable ports!

HA! just kidding. That would be something a computer hardware and software company would do. :|

I’m soooooooo happy with this news! I’ve red Asimov’s Foundation at least 5 times when I was young. In fact, my current avatar is an image of Isaac Asimov of which i’m a huge fan.

Of course, I should be tempered with my expectations since the books are in a way not that suitable for a tv serie. There is not a lot of action, except for the wars later on in the storyline, in the books but the story itself is brilliant.

To be honest, I was very much surprised that Apple gave the order to turn this into a tv serie, I think it’s a very bold decision because it’s a complex storyline filled with multiple storylines or layers and different protagonist . For this serie alone I’m willing to take any Apple TV bundle so I can at least see what they made of it.

how will these shows be distributed? i assume it will be through the apple music subscription but haven't seen it in any of the stories i've read about these tv show signings

Someone once said that they didn't like Asimov as it was just talking and no action. Totally missing the point that the talking is the action. Please make sure the people producing it have actually read the books... cautiously optimistic, but that might just be the triumph of hope over experience. Don't screw it up. There are no fist fights, car chases, space battles, so don't put them in. Just read the books.

I mean, there are a few space battles and gun fights. They're very few and far between. But they're still in there.

I was thinking the opposite thing. I hope the TV shows are good, I’d also like to see some long form movies developed. I like the opportunity to immerse myself in an idea for several hours. That’s why the original Bladerunner was so good. You could ignore the plot and just enter the experience.

“Do you like our owl?”

I love watching that screen slowly come down behind them to shade the sunset. TV shows don’t often develop that much presence. Think of Humans. Clever story but no great visuals.

They shouldn’t try to cram a whole book into one movie. Find a thread from a book and develop that.

I think the first book would be OK. End it with the collapse of the empire. By the end of the series though it all became some sort of stultifying Gaia hypotheses hippy crap, trying to be big picture but ultimately claustrophobic.
