What will apple add to the new iphone 7 bundle?
Will there be a standard earpod with lightning connector or lightning to 3.5 adapter?
Only the adapter?
A beats bluetooth headset?
Airpods (bt earpods?)

This would make a bigger box.
I guess they will ditch the ear pods to slim the box even more
Smaller box = less space, less costs for freight
Also, people will have to buy some new headsets. What a coincidence, they offer beats wireless ones for the small coin/pocket...
Therefore, I also guess, that they won't include the lightning to 3,5 adapter. People will have to buy this little piece for 40$ if they need it.

What do you think?

"... although whether Apple plans to bundle the AirPods with its new phones or sell them exclusively as a separate accessory is still unclear."

Apple would sell them separately anyway... so weather they bundle them or not is moot. However, based on what they always done, why shouldn't they bundle them

If they remove the headphones jack, the only decision that makes sense in a philosophical way is to cut with the past (pun intended) and go completely wireless.

Airpods will be included, while the upsell option will be a revamped line of Beats wireless devices, with a male Lightning charging port.

Color me completely disappointed if the default earbuds are wired (Lightning). That's not a signal of change.
Sounds to me like they will be Airplay earbuds - meaning they use the wifi connection instead of Bluetooth. That will be some seriously better quality sound, just not sure about battery life.

If the AirPods have a wire connecting the two sides, it's already behind in technology. I'd expect them to be.

I expect the connecting wire - and I also expect that they use Airplay over Bluetooth. They'll actually be ahead in technology in this case. The wire connecting the two is not some new advancement that everything is going to have going forward.

This has come at the right time for me. With all the rumour hype surrounding losing the standard headphone socket I decided to try a cheap pair of wireless headphones from eBay. £7 with postage (China, obviously). Okay, the sound is not astounding and if it rains these are going to die quickly but for £7 I now have had a taste of being untethered from the iPhone and I don't want to go back to using wires.

The good -

Quick charging
They are the same shape as EarPods (works for me).
Battery seems to last forever
Wireless (I never knew how GOOD this was going to be)
Easy to pair
Dirt cheap!!!!
Works with Siri
Brings up a bar on the iPhone showing how much battery is left (this is the first time I have used a bluetooth battery device connected to the iPhone so not sure if this is standard or not)
Range was surprisingly further than I thought it would be

The bad -

Not the best sound - a bit tinny
In no way are these going to be waterproof!
Can only connect to one device at a time
Buttons are a bit fiddly and not as clear to use as standard Apple EarPods.

Bring on the Headpods! Never, ever shall I ever go back to wires (unless forced).

Wireless headphones being bundled by default could explain the "modest" iPhone update that everyone's been wailing about. Radically overhauling the enclosure and producing the initial model of EarPods would both impact product margins, so they're not going to happen the same year. And if both happened in 2016, we'd start complaining about 2017's iPhone rumors being boring...

I thought about that, but unless they've come up with some new low powered wifi protocol, I'm not sure that's practical, plus, they still need any wireless headphones to be backward compatible with existing BT hardware. So that's double the radios and chipsets in a very tiny device.

Now bigger headphones with larger batteries could easily have a hybrid wifi/BT tech.

Why should the Airpods be included in this years iPhone? iPhone 7 supporting BT headphones is nothing special, since the iPhone 6S, &, 5S, 5, 4S and 4 did it too. Just because they removed the headphone jack? There is still the lightning port for the headphones.

But that's not the point of removing the headphone jack. Apple's not trying to create a new wired standard. They're trying to revolutionize the wireless standard. Unless Apple totally blows this, it won't just be the same BT headphones they've been supporting since day one.

That said, I don't see Apple including wireless earphones in the box due to cost. The headphones are a courtesy so the customer has some way to listen to music out of the box, until they can buy their own.

Lightning headphones would just be a bad decision on their part. If they are removing the jack, theyll go wireless.
Totally agree, and I guess they won't include any earphones in the box at all, then sell the new wireless earphone separately.

I disagree. The worse move would be putting nothing in the box and letting the customer get home and realize they have no speakers or headphones they can plug into it. Unless Apple forces customers to a webpage that requires them to select a headphone option with a sales pitch explaining that the iPhone requires a Lightning or BT connection for headphones, then there's a good chance many customers will receive their iPhones unable to listen to music, or make hands free phone calls.

Apple won't put wireless in there due to cost. And they won't put an adapter in there because it will encourage customers to keep using their old headphones (and what if they don't have any headphones?), plus it looks like admitting they made a mistake. So that leaves Lightning headphones which solves the first problem, and eliminates the second. If a customer wants to use headphones they'll have to give Lightning a try, or go shopping for an adapter or a new pair of headphones which exposes them to the breakthroughs Apple is presumably introducing in the audio space.

There was absolutely no point in removing the headphone jack! They can revolutionize the wireless standard without taking something away.

Yes. They have been in the works for years now so if they're ready to be released, they're ready to be released. Hopefully they've cracked creating a custom Bluetooth chip to power these things and we get good battery life out of them. What's good battery life for wireless earphones? 8+ hours? I'm guessing it'll have around that.

If Apple does release a set of Bluetooth EarPods, I certainly would be interested if they meet their criteria for battery life and construction. I don't certainly believe we will see eight hours of battery life. At least not in first-generation Bluetooth EarPods. But then again, it all depends on how fast they charge and the battery capacity.

I've read a very interesting article, it states that Apple is working on "Airpods" which we already know, but it goes on to say that these will be a wireless version of the "EarPods" that Apple currently supply in the box. It goes on further to say that Apple plans to release 3 pairs of wireless headphones under the Beats brand. It shows a document that clearly has the plans on it, obviously providing this isn't fake. So I'm thinking at this stage it may go like this

"Airpods" come in the box with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus

the 3 wireless headphones that Apple plans to release could be announced as a premium accessory, therefore up-selling people to a higher cost headphone.

You can read the article for yourself here http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/apple-sell-wireless-airpod-headphones-alongside-iphone-7-1578767

it lists as the following: Wireless headphones Airpods brand Apple then goes on to list Wireless headphone models A1747, A1763, A1796 brand "Beats"

my humble guess:
1. standard airpods come bundled with the iphone 7.
2. is the in-ear version
3. is the sport version
4. is a full size headphone

it sounds like a lot of products, but hey, apple is the multi billion company with the most embarrassing lineup ever, except for the iPP9.7 and the macbook, everything else is outdated...

It could be, they will want to up-sell and since owning Beats they have probably been working on new headphones. It also lines up with what I've been seeing in shops, Wired Beats have been reduced in price, even the expensive studios, this could be to make way for the wireless versions that are in coming. I'm not sure if Apple will announce these headphones at the event, it could be that they will announce a premium version they have been working on, and later Beats update their line up to add the rest.

As for Apple devices being outdated, their lineup will probably be updated later this year, the Macbook Pro is due a big update later this year, and is rumoured to be getting one around October. iMac's will probably also be updated, iPad Pro will probably be updated next year.

Using a wire to connected the sides is a step back in technology when companies are already doing non-connected earbuds. If the AirBuds are connected by a wire, Apple is behind the times technology wise.

Some might want a wire just for the safety factor of not losing them should they fall out of ones ears. I'm thinking I might prefer an over the ear clip instead of the neck wire for that.

However, if the wire were magnetic, that could be pretty cool, to use it or not. I was thinking a charging wire could attach magnetically, and also be used to plug in the AirPods when they run out of power. Inductive contacts might just make that possible.

A safety wire that can be removed is ok. A wire that makes the sides to communicate with each other, technologically behind the times.
