Hello,
For several days I have a problem with the MacBook Pro
(Model A1278 Mid 2012), I ran Apple Hardware Test and I reported the error:
4SNS/1/C0000008: TAOP - 124.

After the error code I think is ambient temperature air temperature sensor.
Where is this sensor located and if it can be replaced or disabled.

TA0P Temperature Ambient air Temperature sensor

Now I have it installed on Windows 8 software that shrinks and spins the fan.
In Mac OS X that I can not use you kernel_task processor to 300% because of that sensor.
I replaced the trackpad but nothing was solved, so the sensor is somewhere else .. people at Apple think they have replaced the motherboard but not related to my problem.

Thank you.

Same error on the same machine (I had modded it by adding an SSD and placing the original HDD in an optibay, but this doesn't seem to be related as dismounting the optibay and ssd didn't solve the problem.. It had anyway worked perfectly fine for 1.5 years..).

Coming back from a 15 days trip I turned on the mbp that had remained home and I immediately got the fan run at full speed, and the computer running very slow, with a kernel task process taking 300% of cpu....), when performed an AHT I got this message about the sensor... Wondering what I can do to fix it...

(I'm far away from any apple center, so sending it in for repair would be really my last option, in case I really can't do anything myself)

I had the exact same error.

TA0P is for
Ambient Temperature Sensor
T = Temperature
A = Ambient Temperature

It is likely that your sensor is dead. OR, if you opened up the computer, you might have connected the connector in the wrong direction. I did not believe that it can be connected wrong way, but it did and I learned the hard way.

And, the names on the the board are not visible when the wire is connected, because it is written below the wire near the connector.

On Mid 2011, 27 inch this two wire connector (Ambient Temperature Sensor) is on the main board on the bottom left side near the fan.
