Apple Has No Plans for Dedicated iOS Gaming Controller

Besides, they are control freaks anyway, and whatever gaming platform, console, controller, etc, they would introduce would suffer heavily from being locked into the Apple eco system, and god knows whatever else restrictions would be there. Probably the controller would have only one button (providing a second button 2 years later as an incremental update) to not confuse the dumb masses out there. That's what todays corporate world is about anyway, to exploit the dumb masses out there which are always in majority.

And people argue that MR isn't a site for Apple enthusiasts anymore. How could anyone think otherwise.

A game controller is badly needed. I just want some hack to use Wii U Pro controller. I think Apple should contract with Nintendo to make them a controller.

You're kidding me, right? I think there's 5 people out there still running Windows on FAT32.

I know ! Crazy huh !

But that's the truth. Apple for whatever reason wants to support older versions of Windows than their own platforms.

I have absolutely No idea why

If Apple could just get past the 1 gig limit on Apps (to satisfy Windows iTunes users on FAT32:rolleyes:) we might actually start seeing some games at a whole new level.

FAT32 has a 4GB file size limit. So the current App size limit has nothing to do with that. I suspect the real reason is the fact that up until very recently Apple was still making devices with a mere 8GB of storage space.

Strictly speaking FAT32 is still used by modern operating systems. Not internally, but with certain external media like SDHC cards and many external hard drives. Why format a hard drive to FAT32 in this day and age? Well because it still offers much better cross platform support than its successor, exFAT.

You know what, ...you are correct , I don't know what I was thinking

Regardless of your quick goofle search, I can assure you that FAT32 still has limitations beyond 1 gig which makes supporting larger files more work than it's worth.

(And yes , I meant "Goofle"....It's a new term I just made up, It works pretty well with no explanation needed)

I have a couple ~2GB video files stored on my FAT32 formatted external hard drive, so I don't quite understand what limitations you're talking about.

Also, have you considered that Apple might have instituted the limit because, up until very recently, they were* they are still selling iOS devices with a mere 8GB of total storage? (of which only about 6.4GB was actually available to the user)

*I forgot that the currently sold iPhone 4 still only has 8GB.

Whatever the reason, I still think (Back to topic) Apple should release it's own controller and up the file size limit. Way too late where I'm at to get into this kind of weirdness.

G'Night

It's a slow news day when a rumor site says a rumor site squashes a rumor.
OMFG!

I would love to see one. It would destroy the vita, what remains of the psp and Nintendo's ds, bs or whatever they call it.

How come Dalrymple knows all these things? He's not confirming/denying rumors anonymously, so why wouldn't his sources at Apple stop giving him information if they know he leaks?

As I remember, the only rumors that Dalrymple comments on are the ones regarding what Apple is NOT doing.

Also, one more point. The story here is "Apple has no plans for a dedicated iOS controller." What if Apple has plans for a controller. One that works for both iOS and OS X. If that's the case Dalrymple is still right. His statement would throw people off of what Apple is developing AND he'd still look like a well connected source. Win/Win

Apple would benefit from this. So, why kill the relationship?

Following today's rumor that Apple was quietly polling developers at this week's Game Developers Conference about support for a forthcoming gaming controller for iOS devices, the ever-reliable Jim Dalrymple has quickly quashed that report.

So someone not from Apple said a rumour started by someone else not from Apple won't be happening? Sounds to me like a lot of people trying to guess the future. I'll wait for the word of Apple thanks. That is the facts in this instance.

----------

Apple would benefit from this.

Apple benefit from this no matter who says what. The more Apple talk out the better for Apple. And Apple just get everyone say and believe what they want and do not get involved in the whole rumour scene at all.

So it does not matter that this random the article talks about only denies Apple rumours. He has no hard facts. He'd be under an NDA if he did. So it's all just a nice Apple talk generating thing.

Of cause this site is for Apple enthusiasts.
"A person who is highly interested in a particular activity or subject"

But this website is not a place for Apple connoisseurs.
"A connoisseur (French traditional (pre-1835) spelling of connaisseur, from Middle-French connoistre, then connaître meaning "to be acquainted with" or "to know somebody/something.") is a person who has a great deal of knowledge about the fine arts, cuisines, or an expert judge in matters of taste"

"expert" is a rare thing on these forums. But still don't say these are bad forums. They are very entertaining to be on.

More news...

Apple Has No Plans for iOS Powered Nuclear Submarine...

Seriously, how is Apple not doing something newsworthy? They probably aren't planning on going to the moon either, maybe we should write an article about that?

Apple Has No Plans for Dedicated iOS Gaming Controller = I have no plans for becoming a dedicated iOS gamer

It was a legitimate article to report because it was recently rumoured that they might have plans to do such a thing:
https://www.macrumors.com/2013/03/29/apple-working-on-dedicated-ios-game-controller/

If we ever read or hear about credible rumours Apple are planning on going to the moon, then a follow-up story confirmed the initial rumour was not accurate would be entirely appropriate. :)

You need more than a controller. iOS devices don't have processing power for the type of games the console snobs are demanding

Graphics are already there IMO, but just in case, give it 3 years and phones will out do PS3 and XBOX 360 graphics.

I'd say the graphics capabilities of the more recent iDevices are almost up there with the PSVita. In another generation, they'll be slightly ahead.

...which makes it even more of a shame that Apple won't capitalize on it. An iPad flipped up and using an external controller would be one of the best portable game devices you could get.

.... just like they have No Plans for a Apple Television. We've gone from "content issues", to "4K", and now this ....

Apple will change their minds 1000 times (probably), but at the end of the day, they would have tried all available options, but nothing every goes slowly does it ...

Besides, this looks almost like the PS4... (only allot more crappier). (Looks like something they just got out of a cardboard box.

No way this is an invention of any sort...

If this is what Apple are doing behind the scenes, maybe they should be focusing on more of what most people actually what, instead of worrying about the 65% margin....... try 98%,

Who is this Jim Dalrymple and why hasn't he been investigated for possible insider trading or misappropriation of information? Why hasn't anyone at Apple found who is leaking information to him?

His sources could be in a lot of trouble if they were ever found out.

Apple employees are being water boarded as we speak. Tim'll find out who the informant is.

...Tim always finds out.

You act as like Apple has actually publicly said something about something. They haven't. These are all analyst rumors which have no basis in fact. The only reason you bring these up because you hate Apple.

Besides, this looks almost like the PS4... (only allot more crappier). (Looks like something they just got out of a cardboard box.

This did not come from Apple - this is a mockup.

No way this is an invention of any sort...

Nobody ever said it was. You trying to imply that it's not shows your Apple hate.

All this has NOTHING to do with Apple. Why do you even visit these boards? You seem to love to hate.
